This book is great for younger readers who may not have the reading skills to tackle the original and unabridged version. Hopefully, it will also instill a love of reading adventures, and inspire them to read the unabridged version when they become more adept at reading. The review below stated that this version did not state that it was abridged, yet in the details area, it clearly says that it is only 64 pages, leaving one to deduce this fact. All in all, a great book for younger children.

I don't have to review this classic story, but just the illustrations, which are totally wonderful! I almost always buy a particular children's book by its illustrations, and the ones in this book are fantastic!

The artwork is excellent, but this is the abridged version of Stevenson's classic. I did not see a warning in the ad for the book that it was the abridged version. I wanted the full-length, original version. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Shame on me for not checking the reviews first, I guess. Live and learn.

We finished reading "Treasure Island" as a family not too long ago, and I picked up this version of "Kidnapped" knowing it was abridged, but hoping it would do a good job with the story. Did it ever!

All the great dialect is still there, the suspense, the treachery and intrigue. And even though a lot of the description found in the original book have been abbreviated in this version, the illustrations are good enough that you don't miss what's missing. These are majestic illustrations.

The book begins with a bit of the history of the Scottish Highlanders' struggle against the throne of England in the 18th century, and discusses the Jacobite cause. After the prologue, it's straight to a map, then the story begins. Enjoy!

The story of Kidnapped is so wonderful in all its depth, that I was disappointed that this was an abridged edition. Of course the NC Wyeth illustrations make it captivating.

The book arrived with a thick, black magic marker drawn across the bottom of the pages. Often a dark smear ran up into various pages. Though I am to receive a refund, I was left without the book I wanted for my grandson's birthday. Extremely disappointing.

I ordered the version that was illustrated by N. C. Wyeth and got a book with no illustrations.

This book is an abridged version of the classic. However, this was not known to us until we received it. Since this was not what we wanted we had to return it and Amazon charged us for the shipping. Rip Off! We've lost faith in Amazon.
