The ending was a little disappointing. I was hoping for more action or something at least. Not just Christina saying it was Professor Mustard in the dinning room.

I have to admit, the cover was what really got me interested in reading this book, it looked creepy and interesting so I picked it up and read the back, it was a good thing I did because I really got into it. This is about a girl name Christina Lattimore who got kidnapped, and she knows who kidnapped her. The police soon finds out where she is. You are probably thinking The End! What a boring book! But it is just beginning. No one is really sure if Christina actually was kidnapped, they think that she faked it so that she could get the ransom money of her grandmother. Christina soon decided that there must be someone else who thought up of kidnapping her, because someone was able to get her clothes out from her house. So it must be someone who she knew very well...Will she be able to find enough evidence to prove that she is innocent? This is quite a creepy book, I read it at midnight and I have to admit I was quite disturbed. Anyways this book won the Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense, thrilling,...Everything i would look for in a book, January 23, 2004
This book has numerous climaxes, and it is because of this that makes this one of "jln's" best books. It is a tale of a teenage girl, christina, and her struggle to gain her parents consent to go away on a felid trip. Only one problem, her father is a straong christian and does not beleive in the roman religion (which is the main lesson to be taught when in rome)so while fighting against her parents crude comments and stern remarks, Christina finds hersself being kidnapped and in a dark basement. When she finally gets out of her "cell" and is rescued by police, everyone ,including her parents, are convinced that she took part in the planning of the kidnapping so that she could go on her feild trip which, now, means absolutly nothing to her. In the middle of her battle with friends family and others she meets a young handsome guy, kelly. This is the begining of their friendship which not only sparks a slight romance, but makes the once solo struggle into a charming duo.
I find this exceptional novel rising above all the many Joan Lowery Nixon books and all other books i have ever had the joy of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars KIDNAPPED!!, February 1, 2002
A Kid's Review
"Why me? " is the question that Christina finds herself asking when she wakes up in a cold, dark, and damp basement. She has just signed a ransom note to her grandma against her will. The next day her kidnapper makes her go through the house and put her fingerprints on everything from a glass to a light switch. After her kidnappers get back with the ransom money they divide it to two piles on the table. Suddenly there is a noise at the door. They drop the gun into Christina's lap and put their hands in the air, it's the police and they blame Christina for setting up her own kidnapping! Can she prove her innocence?
I like this book because it is very interesting to see if Christina will prove her innocence. You will just want to read, read, and read some more. In fact I read the whole book in one day. You should read this book, too. It shows how strong one girl is to go to such great lengths to prove her innocence

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore, September 15, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore (Paperback)
Wow, what a book! The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore is filled with many heart-stopping, scary moments that make you want to lock all the doors and close every curtain in your house before turning the page. This exciting book is about a 17-year-old girl named Christina Lattimore.
It is late one night when Christina is getting out of her car and a dark shadow comes out from the bushes. This dark, frightening shadow is no friend pulling a park, but a dangerous man named Zack Tigus that kidnaps Christina. Christina is held in a cold and lonely basement while she is being held for ransom. Christina struggles to stay alive and tries everything to get out of this awful place. Finally, after hopeless days and nights, the police come bursting into the apartment. Christina thinks her nightmare is over, but it's only beginning. The police take Christina down to the police station and shock her with the news that she has been charged with extortion. Feeling betrayed and abandoned, Christina is determined to prove her innocence. How far will she go?
I loved this book! It never got boring and always kept me guessing. My favorite character was Christina because she is a very strong person inside and incredibly brave. I also like how determined she was and how she never gave up because I know I could never stand up against two hardcore criminals.
Joan Lowery Nixon did a great job making the book suspenseful. "...I hold my breath and listen as I become aware that softly, very softly, through the thick plush carpeting on the stairway, footsteps are padding, patting like little steps of a powder puff. And they are coming upstairs!"
This book keeps your heart pounding and palms sweating until the very last pages, which is why I highly recommend this book. Once you start it, you won't be able to put it down.

The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore
By Joan Lowery Nixon

"I listen to the footsteps moving over my head. Who are you? I want to cry out. What are you doing here? I shove the sleeve of my sweater into my mouth to keep from screaming. I must hang on! I've got to!"

One day, Christina Lattimore is kidnapped. She gets out unharmed, but everyone, even her family, believes that she faked her own kidnapping! Christina will go to some dangerous measures to prove her innocence, but how much will it take to reveal the truth?

I thought that The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore was fairly interesting. The ending was definitely something I would not have expected, either. This book shows that giving up should never be an option, and neither should ceasing to try. I really liked how Christina never gave up, despite her odds. I would recommend this book to basically all people looking for a mystery novel that is not very gruesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is AWESOME!, September 28, 2005
A Kid's Review
I really loved this book! The first couple pages, I was about to give it up, but I kept going on. Christina Lattimore comes from a very rich family, that's the main reason the kidnappers kidnapped her. The end, oh my gosh, I would've never thought it was them (not telling...) who was the mastermind of this kidnap. Wow. I so recommend this page-turner. It's so suspensful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not The Usual Nixon-Suspense!..., June 28, 2002
By
T (Sacramento, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I absolutely love Joan Lowery Nixon! I've only read two books by her so far, but they were both good! A couple days ago I read "The Name of the Game Was Murder," which is creepily suspenseful. That's where "The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore" comes in...
I personally loved this book; once again Nixon astounded me. Even though it was a book I'd put at the top of a mystery list, after reading "The Name of the Game...," it just wasn't very suspenseful. By suspense I mean "what's going to happen next?"
The storyline revolves around a girl named Christina. She is desperate to go on a trip to France with her class, but her father refuses, being that the trip is to study Roman Catholics and her father is a priest, not believing in the religion. She asks her weathly grandmother who owns an oil company if she could take some money out of her trust fund to pay for it by herself. But, she is turned down.
Later that night, coming back from her best friend Lorna's house, her mouth is covered and she is drugged.
She wakes up laying in a cot in a dank basement. She realizes she was kidnapped! The oddity of the situation is that her kidnapper brings her food and makes sure she is well taken care of. He tells her to sign a ransom note to her grandmother.
The next day she soon figures out who's kidnapped her, but doesn't reveal it to him, knowing she'd have to be killed. The kidnapper has her take a bath and change. Then he walks her around the house making her touch everything. She is left with a woman who makes her sit down and watch TV.
Later on, the kidnapper returns saying that they got the money. Suddenly, they hear, "Police!" and the woman gives the gun to Christina. The cops think that Christina was the one who asked for the money, trying to get money for the trip. Christina also finds out they dust for fingerprints and find Christina's all over the house (remember, the kidnapper made her touch things). She realizes she was framed, but no one believes her! Will Christina be able to prove her innocence, or will her snooping around kill her? Find out in "The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Teen's Review, November 16, 2008
This review is from: The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore (Paperback)

The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore is a thought provoking mystery that really makes the reader relate to the main character (Christina) and feel what she feels. The book has a clever plot, descriptive writing, and good character development. Although it is somewhat anticlimactic, I would recommend it to anyone from a teen to adult age that is looking for an interesting and unique mystery.
Towards the beginning of the book, Christina Lattimore is kidnapped and held for ransom in a dingy basement for a few days. She is finally let out, but through a twisted turn of events, she is believed to have planned her own kidnapping! Here starts Christina's quest to prove her innocence to the cops, public, her peers, and even her friends and family! The author's writing really brings you into the story and makes you feel Christina's pain and frustration. For readers who greatly sympathize with characters, the realism of the emotional stress might get to be a bit too much, but this ability to relate with Christina is more of a positive point for the book than a negative one.
Christina's quest to find the real kidnapper made me want to keep reading, but the ending really wasn't what I felt it should be. Although it was a surprise, I thought Christina's discovery was a bit anticlimactic to the action throughout the rest of the book. Altogether, I found The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore to be a unique book and a good read for mystery lovers.
