Starred Review. PreSchool-Grade 1–Kidogo is small…for an elephant. He needs help reaching the tender acacia leaves, crossing the flooding river, and taking a dust bath. Determined to find someone as small as he, he searches the woodlands, the flooding river, and the plains, and just as he gives up, he feels an itching and a tickling and discovers tiny ants around him. Kidogo helps them find acacia leaves, cross the flooding river, and take a dust bath, while following them through the vast land to his home. It is there, with his cousins, his aunties, and his mama, that Kidogo realizes that He was just right–for a little elephant. The poetic text is perfectly matched with pencil-and-watercolor illustrations that depict a warm and lovely home in a land where Kidogo …slept through nights that were deeper than his dreams. This sweet, enchanting story is just right.
