In Kids on the Ball the authors, three physical educators and a physical therapist,
-explain the benefits of using Swiss Balls,

-describe activities using the ball,

-include step-by-step instructions, reproducibles, and written objectives,

-discuss modifications for special needs students (mainstreamed or not),

The book presents 23 complete lesson plans and 118 activities that have been successfully used by teachers in physical education classes. Virtually all of these activities can be used in inclusive settings.

The activities cover the spectrum, including balance, coordination, rhythm and dance, flexibility, muscular strength and cardiorespiratory fitness, manipulative skills, and even games. The activity finder makes using the book a breeze.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for home & small group therapy, April 4, 2001
This review is from: Kids on the Ball: Using Swiss Balls in a Complete Fitness Program (Paperback)
This is a very complete guide to using swiss balls (also known as therapy balls or gymnastic balls). The exercises are grouped by skill with the goals of the exercise clearly described. The suggested modifications for children with disabilities are also very helpful. Though the book is clearly targeted at school phys ed programs, we found it very easy to use at home with all our children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids on the Ball by Anne Spalding, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Kids on the Ball: Using Swiss Balls in a Complete Fitness Program (Paperback)
This book of exercises for kids ... and adults in fact... on the ball, is exceedingly well presented. The explanations are precise and easily followed. The illustrations are equally as valid.
HOWEVER... the book is intended for use in therapy/gym or other applications and here the problem lies! The first time I opened my book to use it, the binding released and a cascade of pages flew out like confetti- very large confetti all over the place.
I phoned the London agent and no help was forthcoming from them. In fact they were not courteous!
Is thisa problem with my book only - a dud? Or is the general binding not safe?
Sincerely,

Jennifer Lewkowski OTR
