The arrival of a new baby in the family often has children experiencing mixed feelings. Barbara Collman's Kid's Book To Welcome A New Baby takes the expectant older sibling (ages 2 to 10) from the announcement of the new baby through the first months of sharing family time. Activities are preplanned, giving parents more time with the child that is making the transition from younger child to older sibling. Kid's Book To Welcome A New Baby is designed to involve the child in the preparation process for the new baby, stimulate the child's interest in the newcomer, and teach the youngster about the new baby's capabilities. Kid's Book To Welcome A New Baby is a highly recommended activities guide for expectant parents wanting a smooth and welcome transition of a new baby into their growing family of older brothers and sisters.

Nice book with lots of ideas on how to explain to your child about the upcoming arrival of a new sibling and activities to do with your child etc. Only problem is that your child would have to be pretty old to be able to use this book. I think 4 years old but maybe as young as 3. Certainly not appropriate for under 3. So if you've spaced your kids 2 years apart or so then this would not work for you.

I bought this book for my 5 year old and she loves it! We had a great time doing the "pre-baby" activities and she can hardly wait for the baby to come so that she can finish the other activities that are about the baby. Be sure to get this book well before the baby arrives, since the first 3 chapters are based on preparing the child for the new sibling. Based on the amount of journaling, experiments, and projects, I would recommend this book for 5 year olds and older. For younger children, I would recommend My New Baby and Me, also availble at Amazon.
