5.0 out of 5 stars Good for BIGGER kids too!
I'll let you in on a secret- I am 29 and I love this book! I have no patience for cooking, becoming frustrated at recipes that call for too many ingredients and too many steps. That's why this book is perfect for me! The recipes are simple, no fancy ingredients, no time consuming steps, yet the results are delicious. I cooked up the Cinnamon Rolls the other day and my...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very outdated
This cookbook may have been ok in its time...but that time was a quarter of a century ago. Seriously, the copyright is 1987. I purchased this book because of its great reviews, hoping to find healthy vegetarian dishes I could make with my kids. Instead, I found things like: popping popcorn and cooking brown rice (no joke). 32 of the first 33 recipes called for regular...

That's why this book is perfect for me! The recipes are simple, no fancy ingredients, no time consuming steps, yet the results are delicious. I cooked up the Cinnamon Rolls the other day and my friend thought that they were store-bought. They were so easy to make yet so good. If you are a big kid who doesn't like cooking, check this book out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for young chefs!, May 31, 2000
By A Customer
This is the perfect book for older vegetarian kids who want to try their hand in the kitchen. And its forward by dietitian and author Suzanne Havala is a simple, reassuring guide, especially for non-vegetarian parents who have concerns about their independently vegetarian children or teens. For more than ten years, the author of Kids Can Cook Vegetarian Recipes, Dorothy R. Bates, has been hosting Friday afternoon cooking sessions for the teens from the Farm School near where she lives. You may have heard about the Farm, a community in Summertown, TN that is known for raising healthy vegetarian children. The recipes are simple, easy to follow, and there is nothing too out of the ordinary. The Farm kids used these recipes to create 3-course meals, and a place setting diagram is included in the book in case your kids want to host a meal, too (or just learn how to set a proper table). And in case you think it takes seasoned young chefs to recreate such a feat, keep in mind that the author has also used these recipes to cook with disadvantaged inner-city children in the Farm's "Kids to the Country" summer program.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great book!!!!, January 4, 2008
A Kid's Review
I have a dairy allergy and I have a lot of trouble finding cookbooks that are safe for me. This book really helps because for instance, in some recipes they call for milk OR soy milk. All the recipes can be adapted, and they are easy to make. Some of them can be made even without adult help!

There is one thing, the pictures aren't really of the food. They're of kids making the food. And sometimes. the pictures of the kids are of them making a recipe that's not on that page :(

Overall, this is a really good book! They even have dairy free banana pudding! My favorite recipe so far is the ginger molasses cookies! One more thing, they use pretty normal ingredients, not like Kale. More like bananas and apples. The only strange ingredient they use is tofu.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for young vegetarians, August 1, 2007
My twin goddaughters are growing up in a vegetarian home, and I love to find cookbooks for them - to encourage thier cooking and reading skills, and to support thier parents. No gift is better than the gift of skills to help them be independent~
The girls love the cookbook, and have loved the foods they have prepared. Their dad likes the food, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very outdated, July 4, 2011

This cookbook may have been ok in its time...but that time was a quarter of a century ago. Seriously, the copyright is 1987. I purchased this book because of its great reviews, hoping to find healthy vegetarian dishes I could make with my kids. Instead, I found things like: popping popcorn and cooking brown rice (no joke). 32 of the first 33 recipes called for regular wheat floor, something I think many families are trying to move away from. There are a few recipes that may be worth trying in here, but the whole thing is a bit of a disappointment. I applaude the idea behind this book, but it needs to be updated for the times.

5.0 out of 5 stars The whole family loves this book, February 19, 2009
My daughter has been cooking with me since she was 4 years old. Over the years I have bought her several kid cookbooks but this is by far our favorite. We have liked every single recipe we've tried. The recipes are easy to follow and understand. My daughter is 11 and can make many of them on her own.

I am a vegetarian and allergic to dairy whereas my husband and daughter both occassionally eat meat. When I asked my daughter her opinion of the book she said "you don't have to be a vegetarian to like this book"! We enjoy having recipes that we all like and can make and eat together.

5.0 out of 5 stars good kids cookbook, October 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have two vegetarian kids. This is a good cookbook for them. I think it could have been even better by having pictures, since kids would easier understand the concepts of the recipes by seeing them. But I still think it's a good book and worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK, November 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book for one of my son's friends birthdays. He loves food and was showing interest in starting to put things together himself. The book actually arrived late (so I had to buy him something else). I already decided that it was a great book just by looking at it online but when it arrived I got really excited about trying some of the recipes myself. I'm keeping the book for myself for now. Maybe I'll give it away, but I'll probably just end up buying another one.
