5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all families with kids of all ages!, October 13, 1999
By A Customer
This is an absolute must for all families, schools and CHURCHES! Not only does my 2-year old daughter love it (and literally ask to watch it everyday), but I have shared it with my Children's Ministry at church. It's fabulous! As parents, we want our children to have good character, but it is not always easy to explain the concepts in a language they can understand. This video is a great tool because it is in a language that kids not only understand, but it is delivered to them through some of their favorite TV personalities. It is never too early to start teaching your children about the six pillars of good character -- trustworthiness, respect, fairness, responsibility, caring and citizenship. "Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not part from it." Believe me, you will NEVER regret this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best kids videos we've ever bought., December 14, 1998
By
Ed "fuzzyham" (Round Lake Beach, IL USA) - See all my reviews
Kids for Character is one of the best kids videos we've ever bought. Six leading children teach us that "There are six simple words that you can use, to be a better person, if you choose." Those words are the pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Six different kids shows do a short segment on each of the six pillars, which is a good introduction to a particular TV show if you've never seen it. If your child already likes a certain TV show, the familiarity is there, and if the show annoys another family member, the segment doesn't last very long anyway. Noteworthy is the terrific "fairness" segment presented by Shari Lewis and Friends. The segment on "responsibility" presented by The Magic Schoolbus seems to stray from the point, but the other segments are great. Quick clips of comments from real kids keep the pace up, too. Sponsoring organizations include teaching groups, sports groups and public service organizations, rather than a specific religious organization with a religious message, which is why I can recommend this video to any household.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars on my list of children videos, March 18, 2001
By A Customer
This is an amazing video for young children and adults alike. It teaches the six pillars of characetristics in an easy way. In each pillar there is a skit to go along with each pillar, which makes it easier for the children to understand. I would recommand this video to all parents.

My son has been dancing and singing about the 6 pillars of character since he was 3 years old. He is now in first grade and this video remains one of his favorites.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great decision-making scenarios without being preachy., December 15, 1998
By
Ed "fuzzyham" (Round Lake Beach, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This video is a good follow-up of "Kids For Character" and is best understood if the viewer is familiar with the first video. Scenes from popular kids TV shows and comments from kids are used to illustrate the points being made. Teaches viewers about making the "right" choices and showing that you have good character. "'Fessing up," "telling the truth," "what should you do?" scenarios are upbeat and not at all preachy. The singing and choreography of the six leading kids is terrific, and following the adult performers is fun. Our two-year-old always wants the whole family to join with him in "The Six Pillar Shuffle!" Organizations sponsoring this video include public service organizations, sports organizations, teaching organizations, and many others, rather than a specific religious organization teaching religious ideals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful "Must have" for any young family's video library!, September 1, 1999
By A Customer
This video is by far my two-year old's favorite. She has watched it so many times, she has almost all the lines memorized. (I turn the Closed Caption on and say the words as each character speaks. She loves watching me pretend to be Barny, Lambchop, or any of the other characters.)

It's a great video, because it teaches important values in an entertaining way. Her vocabulary has also been enhanced by watching this. I have recommended it to all my friends with toddlers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ANY HOME OR SCHOOL VIDEO LIBRARY, July 15, 1999
By A Customer
Parenting is the hardest, yet most rewarding, job on this planet. Unfortunately, our children didn't come with an instruction manual. As parents, we do our best to raise children to be responsible, caring adults. While there is no substitute for a parent's example, finding books, videos, and music that inspire our children to be better people makes parenting a little easier. Produced by the Character Counts Coalition, a national partnership of leading education and youth development groups, "Kids for Character" is a video that helps young people learn the difference between right and wrong and promotes six core ethical values: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. With nearly 30 beloved children's characters, including Barney, Barbar, and Magic School Bus, "Kids for Character," uses humor and songs to entertain, yet educate, even the youngest viewer about the importance of a strong character. Even after multiple viewings, my five-year-old loves to watch "Kids for Character" and I'll never tire of the message it's sending him. Along with the video comes an informative parent guide with follow-up activities, discussions, and explanations. In addition, I received a bonus audio cassette which included four of the songs featured in the video and a lyrics sheet. The songs are exactly what the tastes of so many elementary-age children demand musically, and what we, as parents, want them to hear lyrically. The whole family will be tapping their toes when listening. "Kids for Character" is a MUST for any any home or school video library!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent video for kids, the best I 've seen in the world., May 3, 1999
By A Customer
I have a toddler and I spend a significant time watching all her video collections with her. Kids for character is the best video I have seen for kids and happens to be my little girl's favorite. She watches it 3 times a day! It teaches kids how to grow up as a responsible, sensible and socially aware individual. It inspires parents like my husband and me on how to bring up our little one the proper way. It is indeed a teaching tool for parents on how to rear up their children. Lastly, kids learn a great deal of virtues from watching it.
