5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute best in cooking for children!!
First of all I must admit that I adore the format of the Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library Series! Each and every recipe in the book has a full page color photo of the finished product which I find very appealing! I own 17 of these books including this title and I love them all. These books are well written with clear and concise instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute best in cooking for children!!, July 6, 1999

First of all I must admit that I adore the format of the Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library Series! Each and every recipe in the book has a full page color photo of the finished product which I find very appealing! I own 17 of these books including this title and I love them all. These books are well written with clear and concise instructions.

The Kids Cooking book goes beyond clear and concise-it is phenomenal! The section entitled "Safety First" is divided into 4 sub-sections: Before you begin to cook, While you are cooking, Knives and other sharp tools, In case of fire. Each of these sections carries the theme "stay alert and you won't get hurt" with tips that every child should learn before entering the kitchen and at the same time the kinds of things that parents might forget to mention until there has been an accident!

There is a section on "Equipment" that has a photo of every pot, pan and kitchen utensil that is needed to complete the recipes in the book. There are sections on: How to set the table properly, How to measure ingredients, Kitchen Math, and How to follow a recipe. The section on basic cooking techniques includes step-by-step instructions with photos on how to slice, coarse chop, fine chop, and mince. There are step-by-step instructions with photos on how to: cut an onion, chop garlic, break an egg, grease a pan, peel, core and chop an apple, and squeeze a lemon!!

Without a doubt this is the most worthy children's cookbook that I have had the pleasure of seeing. But here is the clincher- - the recipes are all foods that you or I, as adults, would LIKE TO EAT!!! Included are recipes for: Apple Cinnamon Muffins, Million Dollar Pancakes, Fall Fruit Salad, Chicken Noodle Soup, Mamma Mia Minestrone, Taco Salad, Sunflower Rice, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Crispy Oven-Fried Chicken, Best-Ever Meatloaf, Oven-Barbecued Ribs, Dreamy Creamy Chocolate Pudding, Granny's Apple Crumble, Peanut Butter Cupcakes, etc. I could go on and on. They managed to pick recipes with universal appeal for child and adult.

There are many "cutesy" kids cookbooks out there-but none that I have seen are as comprehensive and well written as this one!

This book is going to be a joy to use in our kitchen this summer as I teach my 12 year old daughter the ropes!! I give it my highest recommendation. My daughter agrees!!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great book, July 5, 2000
This review is from: Kids Cooking: Scrumptious Recipes for Cooks Ages 9 to 13 (Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library) (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter, who loves to be with me in the kitchen. What a pleasure it has been to see her so excited about meal planning and preparation. On her very first meal, she prepared pasta in a broccoli cream sauce with orange-lemon slush for dessert. Her 4 year old brother (who rarely finishes his first helping) went back for seconds. She invited her best friend to share her meal, and she received rave reviews. She already wants to know when she can cook again. The beautiful pictures are a real plus, so kids can see what it should look like when it's finished, as well as enticing them to try new dishes. Kids Cooking covers a wide range of basic techniques and ingredients, and it is, I believe, and excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids Cooking Scrumptious Recipes for Cooks Ages 9 to 13, January 3, 2000
This review is from: Kids Cooking: Scrumptious Recipes for Cooks Ages 9 to 13 (Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library) (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for my daughter, and she just loves it. She has already cooked three major meals for the family using this book. The book has a few introductory pages describing safety, equipment, how to measure, etc., has great pictures, and basic recipes. The recipes are easy to follow and are foods that all kids will eat -- not to mention family members. There are just enough basic recipes to get started with from each major category, and the book is sized for a child's hands. I purchased 2 copies of this book, and I plan on getting one for each of her friends. I highly recommend this book -- it's by far one of the best I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for kids, December 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kids Cooking: Scrumptious Recipes for Cooks Ages 9 to 13 (Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library) (Hardcover)
What a great book. It has pictures of each dish and clear directions.

The best part is that the recipes are for wholesome food prepared from scratch. This is most important for young chefs. It is so important for young children to learn that not everything comes from a can.

My 11-year-old girl is very able to make anything out of this book. She loves the oven baked chicken.

Bravo, Williams-Sonoma.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the better Children's Cookbooks, March 3, 2001
This review is from: Kids Cooking: Scrumptious Recipes for Cooks Ages 9 to 13 (Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library) (Hardcover)
This is one of the better Children's Cookbooks out there. This one reminds me of the old Betty Crocker style children's cookbooks that I grew up with. This book has a nice section on tools of the kitchen, preperation methods all fully loaded with pictures. The recipes can be prepared easily, and best of all they taste really great. The book has a wide variety of recipes too, some easy things, and some more advanced recipes so that children of all ages will be able to enjoy this one.

kids LOVE some of these recipes basically because theyre full of fat,one recipe we did enjoy however was the apple and cinnamon muffins, they did taste real good and one of the salads was also good(not the ceasar salad though, yuck!!)
my son(whos eight) did make the pasta and cheese dish and wouldnt eat it because he said it tasted too cheesy.he did like the slush dessert though
call me strange but i believe that a cookbook which it amined at children shoul have low fat and healthy recipes.most of the recipes here are either high in fat or high in sugar.this is a disappointment for me and my family
