Excellent Embroidery Book,
By Debbie S. (Brattleboro, VT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kids' Embroidery: Projects for Kids of All Ages (Hardcover)
I recently purchased the how-to-book of Kids Embroidery, by Kristin Nicholas. It's terrific. The book is descriptive with step by step lessons on how to make an embroidery project. I have 3 girls, elementary school age that can follow the directions in the book. It's exciting to see the vivid photos of multi-cultural children in the book, as well as the illustrations of how-to's. I would recommend this embroidery book for anyone who'd like to give a gift to a child or adult, buy for themselves, or donate to a teacher's classroom for projects during school. This book will keep the kids busy for hours, and in the end, they'll have crafted a beautiful project as a gift or for themselves.

Great projects for kids of all ages,
This review is from: Kids' Embroidery: Projects for Kids of All Ages (Hardcover)
The author seems to really "get" kids; the directions and illustrations make each step involved in the projects easy to follow. The projects highlighted make the book accesible for both brand new and more experienced needle workers. My children are enjoying the feeling of accomplishment and pride as they complete each project. I'm giving this book to lots of kids on my holiday shopping list--they'll love it!

I've been a fan of Kristen's work for years. Her knitting patterns are fun and beautiful, so imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this book! This easy-to-follow book offers instructions on all of the different stitches that can be used to make all of the different colorful, creative, and innovative patterns she has designed. I'm 35 and I'm set to try my hand at this cool craft!

The new hip craft,
This review is from: Kids' Embroidery: Projects for Kids of All Ages (Hardcover)
I picked this up at the kids public library and wow! I'm 28 years old and want to do over half of the activities in here. Kristin Nicholas really knows what kids like, and this craft book is perfect for middle schoolers and teens alike. The crafts are explained with lots of diagrams, they are hip, simple to more complicated, and cute. I compare the "cool factor" of this book to The Teen Knitting Club by Jennifer Wegner.
Knitting is big, but I do believe embroidery is next!

Kids' Embroidery,
This review is from: Kids' Embroidery: Projects for Kids of All Ages (Hardcover)
My daughter loves this book! A great introduction to the art of embroidery - fun projects that don't require perfect embroidery skills for fantastic results. Instructions for each project are concise and clear yet inspire creativity and experimentation. This is a great birthday present for crafty kids (and adults who want to learn embroidery too!)

I enjoy this book and similiar ones that are based on a Waldorf-education approach to crafting. The projects are well-explained and useful as well as beautiful. "Kids Embroidery" is a down-to-earth book of crafting with easy to follow directions.

Best way to teach a child the needlearts,
By Lisa Morse (Cary, NC) - See all my reviews

I've embroidered for years -- my grandmother taught me on stamped cross stitch bureau scarves -- but when my little girl, Mia, wanted to stitch, there just weren't a lot of good projects that fit her 9 year old attention span.
I was really excited when I saw Kid's Embroidery because it fit the bill. Mia is now teaching her friends - a real sewing circle in the 21st century. They are working on Christmas gifts -- and some are finished -- and they are cute! I am very proud that my daughter is able to share a hobby that I love so well.

At the museum where I work, we hold Family Exploration Days. We feature hand-on activities for children and their parents. This book is very useful in providing instructions.

My husband and I bought this book for our 8 year old daughter this year for Christmas. She has been wanting to learn to embroider for a while now. This book is very good! It is thorough and starts with the very basics. It covers much more than just embroidery though as well. It also covers needle work and cross stitch. The authors clearly explain all the supplies needed, how to work the stitches, and give great projects for the kids to do. It is a great resource and will be lovingly used for years to come. We bought some of the supplies listed in the book to make a little embroidery kit for her and she absolutely loves it. She is already partly through her first project. I highly recommend this book!!!
