Only book of its kind: yes, kids are sexual too.,
By
This review is from: A Kid's First Book about Sex (Paperback)
Probably most parents will find this book to be "too much about sex" for their children - although nothing in the book is inappropriate. This is the only book I reviewed that mentioned nothing about pregnancy (there is a brief mention of fertilization). Instead, it's all about being familiar with your body (there are several drawing exercises, and a workbook is available to purchase separately), good kinds of touching, masturbation, and in general helping the child to decide for him or herself what "sexy" means. There's also some brief discussion about partnerships (heterosexual or homosexual). The drawings are simple lines, and there's very little clinical language. This is a great book for open-minded, sex-positive families to share.

Honest, clear, understandable, a real book for real people.,

This book is very clear and accurate. A Kids First Book addresses all of the issues surrounding sexuality in a way that is easily understood by Kids, (and some adults). I would like to see a b ook like this in the school system but I realize that is probably a way off in the future. I try to share my copies with my grandchildren and their friends by leaving it laying around for them to find. Its amazing how well used it has become. Thanks for an honest, clear book for all to understand. I recommend this book to every parent with small children.

A book about sex, not how babies are made,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Kid's First Book about Sex (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book strictly about sex, this will fill the bill. It does not talk about conception. Topics covered include, nudity, being alone, private parts, etc. This book is not designed to be "fun" (my major complaint). The illustrations are simple line drawings and the layout is designed for a child who doesn't need pictures or a story to entertain or interest them.

Unparalleled.,

This is a book about sex. That much should be quite obvious from the title, but some people think "sex" + "kids" = "manufacture of babies", which is wrong on its face. Furthermore, this is the only children's book I've seen that gives a reasonable explaination of what sexual behavior is and how it happens. If you're ready to deal with your young child's questions and this book now, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble with your preteen down the road.

Not for the uptight or inhibited,
This review is from: A Kid's First Book about Sex (Paperback)
This is a WONDERFUL book if you care about raising children that understand their bodies and aren't afraid of sexuality. I buy it for all of my friends who have young children. It doesn't explain where babies come from, except to say that sex can lead to babies if you want it to. It celebrates the body; the entire body.

One of a Kind,

The problem is--there should be more books that tackle this topic. It's all about simply enjoying one's body. Far too often, we ignore the very nature of a child and our own childhoods when touching ourselves was *pleasureable* ... I think if you have read "Harmful to Minors" and agree with its points, then this is the book to give your children to help them along the way. I hope that more writers find ways to express this very basic, but often silenced, truth about children and their development.

This is an excellent book. The only one I could find that did not put across the idea that if you have sex you are making a baby. It helps a child learn about sex for pleasures sake and encourages a honest discussion free of the hang ups about morality etc. I highly recommend this book for a mature parent who wants their child to grow up with a sex positive attitude and not be ashamed of their bodies.

I came out just fine. In fact, better than fine. I had no time to develop weird hang-ups, guilt, repression or rebellion when things were explained so clearly and plainly, in a positive manner. I think I fared much better than my peers who did not have the advantage of open communication, later on becoming teen parents, drug addicts, promiscuous, repressed or otherwise in denial of their biological orientation.

Should Be Banned!,
This review is from: Kid's First Book about Sex (Hardcover)
This "book" teaches children how to masturbate and is nothing more than pornography disguised as cartoon drawing. A foot in the door for kids to delve deeper because of curiosity into the dark world of pornography. Shame on the author!

Too much information,

This review is from: A Kid's First Book about Sex (Paperback)
I am a child counselor, specializing in counseling children and teens. I purchased this book as a tool to bridge this conversation with children I work with, and thought my own children might benefit as well. The book is very detailed. While it does address that there are different body parts on boys and girls and that we are different, it also talks about how some women like to have their clitoris rubbed while having sex. It also talks about how to masturbate and the different ways and places to masterbate. There is not discussion on the safety of sex or the moral decisions involving sex. If you want your children to know all about how sex is done, this is the book for you. I'm a huge proponent of sharing the truth with a child, but this seems to provide them with a little too much information for the ages it appears to be designed for.
