5.0 out of 5 stars Really a lot of fun
No, it's not a guide book, it's an imaginative interactive puzzle book/contest and a lot of fun for kids. My 10 year old loved this book and it "tricked" him into keeping a "journal". Many years from now he'll enjoy reading some of his thoughts and even sketches from his first (and assuredly not his last) trip to Florence. It's fun for parents, too, and provokes a lot...

2.0 out of 5 stars Some kids might like this
I like the pocket size of this book, plenty of room for children to write, too. There just isn't much to it. I like some of the open ended questions and think others are too broad. The use of space is odd in some places. It makes sense that there is room for kids to write and draw, but a blank page follows things like a simple yes/no question. The little game is engaging...

In the end, this is a small work, small game. Some kids might like it. Take a look at this one: Kids Europe Italy Discovery Journal

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the Venice version, September 24, 2010
This review is from: Kids Go Europe: Treasure Hunt Florence (Spiral-bound)
I love the idea behind Kids Go Europe and the "Treasure Hunt Venice" version is wonderful (six stars and up, really :-). Exciting and very engaging for children. "Treasure Hunt Florence" doesn't live up to that benchmark. It isn't as creative and is flat out boring for most of the time.

We purchased 2 of these fabulous books for my 2 girls for our Italian trip last summer. The girls loved trying to find all the statues, artifacts and attractions. It is a wonderful combination of history, cool facts and interesting tidbits of Italian Culture. It's the perfect size for carrying around and my 2 girls ages 10 and 12 found it interesting and informative. Lots of fun and we learned some great facts!

5.0 out of 5 stars great little book to motivate kids and avoid boredom!, August 5, 2007

We haven't used this treasure hunt book yet, but I know my kids will have fun with it. They have looked through it and can't wait to start the search. It says to do the hunt as a team, but my two are excited to challenge each other for points- we'll see how it goes. The writing is witty and is enough to keep them entertained- it looks challenging for some questions, but there are some things that are just about seeing and observing. The best thing about this book is that the places they have you stopping are places we are actually going to. Some activities are for example, taking a ride in a gondola or traghetto, getting your photo taken in front of the Grand Canal (great to encourage the photos they always hate to let me take), and sitting in one of the cafes on Piazza San Marco- ordering an espresso and taking a sip, describe the taste. The last one alone is enough for me to buy the book- I am guaranteed an espresso at a table!! There are also a few questions for parents along the way too. I will give them the history along the way, but this book will help to keep them moving and give them something to look forward to at each new site along the way. I think it's a great idea- wish I had thought of it!

2.0 out of 5 stars This is a book?, September 2, 2007
This review is from: Kids Go Europe: Treasure Hunt Florence (Spiral-bound)
Loved the look of the cover, but receiving this very teeny, spiral bound, mostly blank (for kids to fill) micro notebook was a huge dissapointment. It's not a guide book, but a few scant notes and little else. It just didn't deliver. I now see that the 5-star rating for this book was given by the author!!
