Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 4^-6. With 140 million things in its collection, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., offers museumgoers ample opportunity to satisfy their curiosity about almost anything. But where to begin? This handy book, part tour guide, part history, supplies kids with brief facts about how the institution began, then treats them to a peek at some of the treasures housed in the three most popular museum buildings, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of American History. The information about the exhibits is fascinating, and there's plenty of it. Illustrations are plentiful, too. The photos are quite interesting; however, the original artwork is problematic: the brightly colored, fanciful, cartoonlike characters superimposed onto some of the photos of museum exhibits are distracting and meaningless and make the pages seem unpleasantly crowded. This review is from: A Kid's Guide to the Smithsonian (Paperback)
There are 10 Smithsonian museums on the mall. The author only details 3 of them, which left me & the kids disappointed. We were looking for information on the museum of Art & Sculpture.
