5.0 out of 5 stars Kids in the Holiday Kitchen
I first saw this book at our local library and fell in love with its graphics and fun recipes to do with kids. The recipes are colorful and many would make great teacher gifts all year around. 3.0 out of 5 stars tasty, easy recipes but not enough pictures
Everything I've tried from this book has been a hit and my kids love to make the treats. However, only about 1/2 of the recipes have pictures to go with them. In my opinion this is a big flaw for a kids holiday book.

I first saw this book at our local library and fell in love with its graphics and fun recipes to do with kids. The recipes are colorful and many would make great teacher gifts all year around. There are recipes for lunch, such as, tea cup soup and snowman sandwiches...dressed up tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Our family is having a reunion this weekend and the caramel corn with orange and chocolate should be a hit. And our 4-H group recently used the cookies in a jar recipe for a project learning day and the kids really enjoyed themselves as they scooped in the ingredients and made colorful tags. This book will get lots of use year around!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice book, December 26, 2008
This review is from: Kids in the Holiday Kitchen: Making, Baking, Giving (Paperback)
I was really happy to find this book for my daughters this Christmas. It has a really nice selection of recipes and crafts. There are ideas for meals like Stuffed French Toast, Mac and Cheese, and our favorite Teacup Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Sandwiches (cut with cookie cutter). Although this isn't a vegetarian cookbook, only two of the recipes contain meat (most recipes contain dairy products however). The selection of sweets (admittedly our favorite chapter) included ice cream, cookies, candies, drinks, and more. We all found something we liked (for me it was the Chocolate Mint Brownies!) The book also containsa selection of craft projects to make for gifts--the layered cookie jar especially caught my eye. A lot of the crafts sounded pretty good but I wish each one had a picture because it's hard to figure out what they should look like, especially for kids. In fact, if there was a picture of each recipe and craft, this would have been a five star rating. Still a great book, small and manageable for kids with some nice ideas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 6, 2011

This book was so cute! I gave it to my niece and she was excited to try some of the ideas in here. I just wish there were some more pictures (not every craft had a picture).

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs More Pictures, December 18, 2010

That's my only complaint ... it needs more pictures. I think the book is well written, the recipes are quite good (and basic enough for kids), and what pictures are included make the food look appealing - especially to kiddos. But I really wish there was a photo for each recipe. Younger children especially don't (or can't) read recipes to see if it sounds appealing to them. However, seeing a picture of the finished product definitely increases their desire to make it.

My son was especially interested in the Celebration Sticks (pretzel rods dipped in chocolate & rolled in sprinkles), Incredible Edible Ornaments (cupcakes decorated with mini peanut butter cups & pretzels to look like ornament tops), and Frosty & Friends (marshmallows decorated with candies to look like snowmen). There are also savory things like Macaroni & Cheese, Turkey Roll-Ups, and Spaghetti. I definitely wish there were pictures of those things to entice my picky eater ...

Also included are some craft projects for children of various ages. Handmade soaps, candles, edible garland, ornaments & stockings.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase, with the exception of the lack of accompanying pictures I already mentioned ...
