BUYER BEWARE...DANGEROUS AND PAINFULL!!,

This is today's "gimmick" at it's finest!! Thought it would be a great idea for our 5 year old; however, it turned out to be a nightmare!!! First of all, we had hoped to free up our hands with this product...not possible. Either you hold the free end of the rope, or you need to find a suitable door, tree, etc. to attach it to. The advertisement doesn't show you what's at the other end of this thing. Secondly, good luck trying to turn it off...it was more like wrestling an octopus to get it shut down. Thought it was just the kid's having a difficult time until my turn came about. Try using this on individual use, but beware of the ball...IT HURTS IF IT HITS YOU!! In my opinion, this could prove to be a hazard with a spinning rope, which you cannot turn off easily, but could easily get around a child's neck. I am an adult and it was difficult for me to operate. Also cheaply made and not durable at all...Good luck with this one!!!

Well, after being a nervous wreck over whether or not I should buy this (all the reviews made it sound horrible!), my children and I took the plunge and I have to say that after one day's play, it seems pretty good. Granted, we have only played it in horizontal skip mode, which my 6 year old twin girls and I can do fine. My 4 1/2 year old boy gets caught by the rope each time but at least it pulls out of the base or slows down as a safety measure. We tried it in vertical classic mode and the rope turns well with enough height to jump. We had no problems with it spiraling or staying low to the ground--in fact, it hits our entrance arch to our living room which is why we can't do it in the house and have not played with it much in that mode. It really is a lot of fun so far, but I will definitely write more as we get a chance to take it outside.

After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this item asked for by my daughter for her 7th birthday. I'm glad I bought it. It does have different speeds, you just have to wait a few seconds for it to adjust to the slower speed each time it is started. There are different time settings too. It can go for as little as 30 seconds. She has played with it on each different setup along with another 7 year old. They both loved it and were able to do it without any problem. You do have to attach the other end of it to a stationary item for the one setup but if you follow the instructions on how far and at what height, it worked perfectly.

I bought the Jump Dancer for my daughter for Christmas. I hadn't heard of it at all...just saw it in the store and decided to get it. I'm glad I didn't read the reviews here before purchasing it because I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It has turned out to be a great purchase for us, though! All 3 of my children love using it...ages 8, 6 and 4. They have no trouble switching the speed. My 8 year old is able to jump on the fastest speed, so it's not that "scary." My younger kids prefer skip roping on the slowest speed. The Jump Dancer has been a great source of exercise for my kids. They are able to get moving even when they can't go outside due to cold weather. We also had it set up during our New Year's Eve party and all of the kids loved it...ages went from 4 years old to 10 years old.
As for durability, we have had it for less than a month so I can't say for sure if the parts wear out easily. We are also using it inside on a carpeted surface, so I'm sure that helps.

great toy but parts wear out,

My daughters (9 and 10) and our twin boys (6) love it and so do all of their friends. Some of the rope parts have worn and frayed but it's been outside the whole spring and summer so I guess that's to be expected. A good toy, just be ready to replace some of the heavy wear parts.
And I don't understand the reviews whining about how fast it is. You push the slow button and it slows down. And don't even get me started on the 11 year old who's 'afraid' of it (geez!).

This toy is awful. My daughter could not wait to get it and play with it. The first time we turned it on, my little dog got tangled up in the rope. It is way to fast and there is no way to turn it off without getting hit by the ball or tangled up in the rope. It is not fun and what a waste of money. I am very disapointed.

We recieved this toy for Christmas and my 6 year old daughter couldn't wait to try it. We have used it indoors on a concrete floor so far.
The regular jump rope mode didn't work very well for us indoors. The rope would just not stay attached to the door. That mode was not fun as it had to be constantly adjusted. The horizontal mode with the ball on the end of the rope went better for us. The slowest speed still seemed pretty fast. I think if it were on carpet or grass it might be better. We are going to try that before giving up on the toy. Getting hit with the ball did hurt. At this point, I feel this toy is just not fun enough to justify the cost.

This was a horrible toy. I bought it for my 11 year old. We assembled it and we were afraid of it. It went very very fast to the point you couldn't get near it. There was no chance of "jumping" Very scary. Returned it first night we had it.

As a child my mom used to tie a shoe on a shoe string and whip it around our concrtete driveway. My brothers and I would jump it and laugh and laugh. Then we first saw the Jump Dancer at church and my children loved it! I bought this for my middle child's 9th birthday, but all three of my children (almost 11, 9, and 7) love it as well as their friends. I am a social worker and run a group for obese children and teenagers. What I like about this product is that it is fun and exercise-producing. Too it can be played various ways and therefore the kids don't bore of it as quickly as other toys. There are various levels and speeds of play too. Great toy, good buy, and very durable.
