I am so pleased to find another author who believes that writing the phonetic spelling out next to each and every word is so important.

This book is an excellent resource for parents and teachers alike that need to speak Spanish to their children in true-to-life situations. There are probably thousands of phrases listed here. The phrases are broken up by theme, and are easy to sound out. There is a full glossary and several sections in the back that give ideas on how to teach these sentences.

The age range of 9-12 is a good one. I particularly enjoy the idioms and old proverbs at the top of each chapter. If you need a lesson book, this one will be too overwhelming, but I will be suggesting it to all my students who complete Flip Flop Spanish: Ages 6-9: Level 1 (Book + Audio CD) as well as a reference for the summer time.

The cons:
- It's not laid out simply or methodically as a book you can teach through, but you definitely will want this as a supplement to your homeschool or Spanish lessons if you believe in the immersion idea.
- The book is a bit backwards - I believe the chapters on how to get started and ideas for teaching should be in the front - they seem to be rather an afterthought.
- This book is not easy for a child to read, it's definitely more adult oriented.

The pros:
- There are TONS of phrases,
- has phonetic spelling,
- and they are grouped by theme or situation.
- there are plenty of ideas to help you teach, and after completing (or during) another Spanish course, you should be able to add these to your vocabulary list.
- This would be GREAT to learn from right before a trip to a Spanish speaking country, especially if you'll be encountering Spanish speaking children.

All in all, I like it! Good value!
