5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Pamela Ferrell!
As an adoptive mother of an African American daughter I have always been relying on others to help manage my 3year old daughter's hair. I envied friends of color who labored for hours doing the hair thing with their daughters. Pamela Ferrell's book is enlightening, and educational. I am now able to have that special time with my daughter, and produce a well-groomed...

3.0 out of 5 stars For Learning about hair, not for braiding instruction
I purchase this book and I found out that it isn't for learning about braiding. It's more of a educational tool about teaching children to love their hair. If you want to learn about braiding and cornrolls, this is NOT the book. If you want to learn or teach your child the basics of taking care of their hair, this will do only that.

As an adoptive mother of an African American daughter I have always been relying on others to help manage my 3year old daughter's hair. I envied friends of color who labored for hours doing the hair thing with their daughters. Pamela Ferrell's book is enlightening, and educational. I am now able to have that special time with my daughter, and produce a well-groomed ethnic hairstyle she and I can be proud of. I've heard it said that,"No one can ruin a black child's hair like a white woman." Well, this is one mother who wants her child to be proud of her ethnic heritage and of her mother. So I say Thank you Pamela Ferrell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Picture Perfect, February 10, 2004

This review is from: Kids Talk Hair: An Instruction Book for Grown-Ups & Kids (Hardcover)
As a natural hair care provider, of un-processed/chemically free African-American hair textures, I purchased this book to offer my little clients some styling options for their natural hair. I love showing my little clients and their parents this book. It gives some great brief articles on proper management of our youth's hair. And OHHHH the young girls and boys in the book are adorable. Now if you are looking for step by step instructions of how to achieve the hairstyles showcased then this book is not for you. However there are a few step by step or diagram instructions on a few of the styles. I feel that this book is a must have for parents/guardians etc. of African-American children. Even if one is creatively or dexterity challenged in hairstyling this book has something to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, October 11, 2001

Great book. Both my 5 year old daughter and I love the images and colors, and I find the hair styles inspiring. She picks something she likes and I try to make it. Great with the chapter on boys, as well. It might be misleading to have "instructional" in the title, as the instructions on how to create the different hairdoes are very brief.

2.0 out of 5 stars Far from instructional, March 16, 2001
This review is from: Kids Talk Hair: An Instruction Book for Grown-Ups & Kids (Hardcover)
This book was undoubtedly a nice presentation but this is far from an instruction book. The pictures are great and if you are the type of person who has a knack for braiding and styling hair, this is great for a reference but if you don't have the knack, you won't have it after reading this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kids have bad hair days, too, August 12, 2001
This review is from: Kids Talk Hair: An Instruction Book for Grown-Ups & Kids (Hardcover)
The three star rating is only because I am horrible with hair and I thought I would get more in depth instruction. However, this is a great book for the basics of hair care for children. Instead of hair washing time being a chore, it has become something of a treat to my daughter.

I have learned to take my time and respect SOME of her decisions about styles, and I have also learned to trust myself when it comes to her hair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book with Great Pictures, March 18, 2002
This review is from: Kids Talk Hair: An Instruction Book for Grown-Ups & Kids (Hardcover)
This book has some good ideas and wonderful color pictures.
Each time that I do my 5 yr. old's hair she gets the book and picks out a picture of a style then I replicate that style for her hair.
The styles are very simple.

I received this book as a gift from my cousin. This was a well thought out gift. The photographs are soooooooooo cute. My daughter enjoys looking at the photograps of the children's natural hair styles. It is a good book to use to enforce positive hair images in African American children. I enjoyed reading outloud the positive words that described each style to my daughter. This book includes instructions on how to do each hair style. A good book to have in your hair library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures..., August 2, 2006
This review is from: Kids Talk Hair: An Instruction Book for Grown-Ups & Kids (Hardcover)
This book offered great pictures of many hairstyles that can be recreated on a varity of textures and lengths of hair. This book also offered great advice on how to properly care for childrens hair. If you want to learn how to braid hair, this book does offer some instruction. But in order to learn to braid, twist, part, etc. hair, you will have to practice. This book will provide many hairstyles for you to use for practice and/or so your child will look cute.
