Disapointed,
By
This review is from: For the Kids Three (Audio CD)
I own the first two For The Kids albums and love them. This third album is not so great. "The Lint Song" is so negative that it overshadows all the other songs. It talks about "your final date with death" and "I lacerate your throat and kick your face in half". Did Netwerk Music actually listen to "The Lint Song", by MC Lars, before they produced this cd? They should be ashamed of themselves!

Very good album and a good compliment to the first two. Our family (2 toddlers, an 8 year old and a preteen) like many of the songs, especially "I Want To Have Fun", "See You On The Moon", "The Babysitter's Here", and "Does Your Cat Have A Mustache?". These are very well written songs that don't grow old very quickly. There are two songs we've removed (we purchased the MP3s and use our mp3 player to listen). We didn't load "The Poopsmith Song" and "The Lint Song" because we thought these were inappropriate for our toddlers. We're kind of tired of all the f_rt and poop humor in kids things so lyrics like "don't poop on your sister" just seem too obviously pandering to that theme. The Lint Song talks about "... doing a number two on your parents lawn ..." when under the influence of lint and also tells of a woman who died of lint exposure. Too close to a drug reference and a little frightening for the young ones. If you don't have an MP3 player but have a computer, you can still rip the music and just burn the tracks you like. The other songs are also good. Even the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and the "Wheels on the Bus" turn out very well.

Not Just For The Kids,
This review is from: For the Kids Three (Audio CD)
If you've been avoiding children's music because you think it's all too simple and cutesy and you're afraid you might drive off the road if you hear "The Wheels On The Bus" one more time, then look no further than the For The Kids CDs from Nettwerk Music. They've just released the third installment of this series of classic and contemporary children's songs performed by an incredibly eclectic line-up of musicians, including Barenaked Ladies, Moby, Of Montreal, Mates of State, and Rogue Wave. Every track is a gem, done in a way that will have both parents and kids bobbing their heads and singing happily along. You'll even find yourself joining in on the chorus of Over The Rhine's "The Poopsmith Song" as they sing about toilet training. No, really, the poop most definitely goes in the potty! And try to resist the sweet charm of "I Want To Have Fun" by Of Montreal.

A few songs with not-so-great language,

We own both For the Kids I and II, and thought this third installment would be just as great. Most of the songs are great, but there are a few with some questionable lyrics (i.e "makes you take a number 2 on your parents lawn" in one song and "blood & guts" in another). We listen to our kids' music on our iPod, so I've just deleted these songs so we don't have to listen to them. They're not exactly what I want my 2 year old repeating back to me.

Most songs are great, a few are inappropriate. As MP3s, just leave those out.,

Inappropriate For Younger Kids,
By
This review is from: For the Kids Three (Audio CD)
I don't understand who the target was for this CD. There are songs for really young kids like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Wheels On The Bus", but then there are songs like "The Lint Song", which features the line: "I lacerate your throat and kick your face in half". Many of the songs are about complex subject matter like love and longing that I think tweens would appreciate ... but what tween is going to be caught dead listening to a CD called "for the kids"??? These more complex songs went completely over the head of my 2 1/2 year old, who would have been much happier listening to Raffi, and honestly, I would rather listen to Raffi than the music on this CD.

Great album...with a few exceptions,
This review is from: For the Kids Three (Audio CD)
Jellyman Kelly! This song/version is awesome. Also, the Format's "Does Your Cat Have A Mustache?" always makes my daughter laugh. Other notable songs are Small as Me, Clementine, and The Other Day. The version of Wheels on the Bus is also a bit different and really great. But as several reviews here have already mentioned, this album has a few low points. We're burning a new copy of the CD without "The Lint Song". Not so great to have my 3-year-old hearing "lacerate your throat" and "kick your face in half". This version of "I'm a Believer" might as well be cut and pasted from Shrek (could be good or bad). And the Moby song "Sleep So Very Long" is beautiful, but doesn't really fit the rest of the tracks (especially right in the middle). Anyway, with all that good and bad, this is an amazing CD for kids. I recommend it, just skip the Lint Song.

My kids 11, 6, and 3 really enjoy this album....especially the Poop in the Potty song, which has sufficient grossness to entertain them for miles. The adults like the new versions of old favorties, including a techno-style Clementine, Wheels on the Bus with great banjo!, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Some of the other tracks are too moody for my kids and too weird for us, but overall a great buy!

great music for the kids and myself!,

this cd is terrific. My children LOVE it. The Poopsmith song is my 2 yr olds theme song at the moment while she is potty training. If you are looking for some music for the whole family this is the cd.
