This book has been magic in my classroom and my building. My 2nd and 3rd grade students list this as one of their favorite books. I used it for an essay writing assignment, and students began asking me if they could borrow it during their silent reading time. It has been such a hit, that I recommended it to other people in my building. The PE teacher, the counselor, and the librarian have all ordered their own copies. The book contains essays written by children from 7 to 12 years of age. They write about a problem they had in their life and how they made it through. The problems range from having a bike stolen to watching a younger sibling die, from being fat to taking kindergarten twice. I can't say enough good things about this book! It has been motivational in so many ways, and reached students that I never expected it to -they all want to read this book.

This book was one of the few I found where the stories are written by children to help other children. Most other books geared to help kids through troubling times are written by psychologists and other doctors. These stories help kids (mostly teen age) make connections with other kids on issues such as moving, bullies, divorce, etc. I would recommend it for classrooms as sample writings for using stories as healing.
