5.0 out of 5 stars A Change from the Typical Kidz Bop Style
I started collecting Kidz Bop CDs when Kidz Bop 10 came out. After I got Kidz Bop 13, it started to get old. Their style became boring. Instead, I baught Alvin and the Chipmunks CDs. Then when Kidz Bop 17 came out, I thought I'd try it, knowing it had to have made it to 17 somehow. It was a HUGE surprise! There were NO adults trying to sound like the original artists...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware the Eldritch Terror
Let me set the scene for you if I may: I am visiting a local <REDACTED> toy store in <REDACTED> to buy some Legos for my son's birthday. As I stroll into the store on a bright, sunny Saturday it becomes instantly clear that something is gravely amiss. The greeter at first appears to be elderly, but upon further examination proved to be a young woman, no more than...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Change from the Typical Kidz Bop Style, May 11, 2011
This review is from: Kidz Bop 17 (MP3 Download)
I started collecting Kidz Bop CDs when Kidz Bop 10 came out. After I got Kidz Bop 13, it started to get old. Their style became boring. Instead, I baught Alvin and the Chipmunks CDs. Then when Kidz Bop 17 came out, I thought I'd try it, knowing it had to have made it to 17 somehow. It was a HUGE surprise! There were NO adults trying to sound like the original artists. Instead, there were the pleasent voices of preteen soloists and a backup singing group of children with a choir quality sound. I was so happy for there to be a change. If I'd just baught Kidz Bop 14, I would've been introduced to the idea early. Now I have every Kidz Bop CD in the double didgets.

Here are my thoughts on each song:

1. Party in the USA
The boy showed good range just before the main chorus. The girl sang the same line in the second verse and didn't do as well with it. For the most part, it sounded professional and close to the original. It isn't my favorite song, but not because of the singing. It's more about the fact that I've heard it too many times.

2. I Gotta Feeling
I compared this one to the Chipmunk version, which I also have. The Chipmunks thought it was okay to go ahead and say "Oh my God". Not Kidz Bop! They say, "Oh my gosh". I thought that was great! They also were sure to change that hidden line that the Chipmunks left in. Kidz Bop changes, "Look at her dancing! Just take it off!" to "Look at her dancing! Just dance along!" The Kidz Bop version is a little slow, but it's hardly noticeable unless you play it at the same time as a different version. I like the boy who does most of the singing. He fits that song perfectly.

3. Paparozzi
In my opinion, this song isn't very appropriate for children. It's not very encouraging, but it encourages stocking people you like. However, the singing is great on this song. The kids hit the notes pretty well.

4. You Belong with Me
This is one of my favorite songs. The singing is great. The girl that sings the most in this song seems to fit in this kind of music. There is no complaint here. My sister and I play this one a lot.

5. Knocks You Down
It is evident that a lot was cut out of this song. It is still a good version because the things they cut out are inappropriate lines. The rapper comes back in this song, and he is just perfect for rapping and hip-hop. He's got that voice. This song is catchy, but it's one of those songs I have to be in the mood for.

6. Fireflies
This is another one of my favorite songs. They kept the instruments pretty much the same as the origininal and the singing is sweet. I'd say it's very similar to the original, only with the Kidz Bop personality, which is cool.

7. Battlefield
Another favorite of mine! The kids really show off their vocal skills in this song. The older girl is one of my favorites. She doesn't sing in every song, but when she does, it's great. The kids are good at sounding dramatic. I like that, too.

8. Use Somebody
I know that title kind of sounds weird, but they don't mean they need somebody to use as a tool. They need somebody to help them and love them. It sounds a lot better when you hear the song. The singing is pretty good. That older girl is in this song as well.

9. Already Gone
The kind of echo-dramatic singing in this song is cool. In some parts, the high notes sound kind of forced. However, it isn't bad enough for me to not listen to it.

10. One Time
Usually, when Kidz Bop covers a song, it has smaller voices than the original versions. But when they cover Justin Bieber, they either have the same pitch or a slightly lower one depending on who's singing. It's not bad, just funny. When they cover Justin Bieber, the songs sound pretty much the same, except with more voices at times.

11. Say Hey (I Love You)
This is a feel-good kind of song. I really like it. The singing is interesting. The kids sound like they're having fun. Sometimes, you can hear a smile in one voice or another. I really like this song and especially this lighthearted version.

12. Sweet Dreams
This song only has two soloists for the most part. There's the older girl and boy who take turns at each line. It sounds GREAT! Now, in terms of child friendly, I'm not sure. It mentions having nightmares and might bother a child in that manner.

13. Never Say Never
I like the way the kids sing this song. There was one boy who I think needs a different kind of song to sing, but other than that, it was pretty good. A lot of these songs have great harmony, and this was no exception.

14. Meet Me Halfway
I LOVE this song! The older girl really fits the lines she sang, especially in the beginning. You see the rapper again, and he's great. They have the auto-tune robot sounding part in the bridge just like the original. It was put together pretty well.

15. Replay
I like the digital altering of the voices in this song. The lyrics were changed for a younger audience, obviously. It's a great version with great singing, and it's one of my favorites!

16. Sounds like a Hit
This wasn't sung by Kidz Bop. It is the original version. There is nothing inappropriate about it, but the girl has some serious attitude in her voice. It's not one of my favorites.

17. Shine On
This is another original version of a song. It is a sweet song, but I don't listen to it much because it's kind of boring.

Overall, this is a great CD. I'd recommend it to:
-Kids who want something more mature than toddler songs
-families who want to listen to their favorite songs without endangering the ears of their little ones
-People who want clean versions of songs
-People who like listening to children sing
-Kids who want to listen to famous music but can't find clean versions
-Anyone else who's interested

5.0 out of 5 stars Good cd for kids, July 21, 2010

Bought this for my 10 year old daughter's birthday. She wanted this cd the most out of all her presents. I never thought I would buy a Kidz Bop cd. I thought they were destroying songs and lame but I finally gave in. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. It's cute. She loves it and so does her 8 year old brother and 4 year old sister. Her favorite song is 'Fireflies'. I am glad I don't have to worry about her singing and listening to inappropriate lyrics. I would recommend this cd to anyone with kids. Will be buying more Kidz Bop cds in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars For children and parents who are fed up with disgusting lyrics in songs., February 2, 2010

This review is from: Kidz Bop 17 (Audio CD)
I LOVE the Kidz Bop releases. I can't even listen to the radio with or without my son because of the very offensive lyrics or comments by the radio personalities. Therefore, I choose to buy Kidz Bop so we can enjoy the songs we really like but in a cleaner version. Kidz Bop may not be for everyone but this parent loves them. And my 10 year old loves it too. He's an innocent child with child-like desires of wanting to be Spiderman to help fight crime and put bad guys in jail. I love his innocence. If your child is like mine, he or she will enjoy this clean cd. I even took my son to their concert and we had a GREAT time.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's for kids, December 10, 2010
This review is from: Kidz Bop 17 (Audio CD)
I'm going to get this for my 7 year old daughter. She will LOVE the Miley song, Firefly, and I really appreciate the cleaned up version of the Blacked Eye Peas' song. I will probably purchase the mp3 version and some songs I will remove for her listening (e.g., the dream/nightmare song). I mainly censor songs for her that are the "longing for love" type of songs. I grew up in the late 70s, early 80s, and it seems I was bombarded with songs all about NEEDING to be in love or being miserable because of or without being in love. I try to surround my daughter with all sorts of types of music and artists, but pick songs with more upbeat or inspirational lyrics (e.g., even Alanis Morrisette has some good ones, Sting, Ziggy Marley, St. Germain, all have good stuff) (oh, yeah, a new one I like, Amber by 311). I have made some good CD mixes with songs by major artists from movies soundtracks, e.g., WallE, Peter Gabriel, Kung Fu Panda, the song Kung Fu Fighting, etc, etc. The entire soundtrack from the Garfield Movie is fun (and Shrek 2).

If you are a fan of the Kidz Bop, you will love this one too. It has many fun songs on it, quite a few up-beat, so the kids love to dance around to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5 star product from Kidz Bop, February 2, 2010

The bottom line: My 5 year old loves it and yours will too!

Ignore the rant from the previous review. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, however, giving a product 1 star because you think artists have sold out - this is the wrong forum for voicing your opinions of the music industry, and should be reserved for a review of the product itself, not of your failed career.

Personally for me, I think Fireflies is the reason not to buy this CD, however, it's one of my kid's favorite songs.
