This CD got so many negative reviews from people who were reviewing the actual quality of the songs, not the purpose that the album was meant to serve. I don't get Kidz Bop. What kid wants to hear other kids sing their favorite songs? You may as well just ask one of your friends to sing to you. And please, whoever makes Kidz Bop, Kidz Bop CDs are bad enough with untalented kids singing back-up, but must you randomly get some even less talented person to do the main singing? I might rather listen to William Hung...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Preteens, July 13, 2004

This review is from: Kidz Bop 5 (Audio CD)
This CD got so many negative reviews from people who were reviewing the actual quality of the songs, not the purpose that the album was meant to serve. Kidz Bop CDs are for kids who are too old for little kid music, but too young to listen to the actual songs that the Kidz Bop songs are based on. I would much rather have my eight-year-old listening to Kidz Bop, then the actual songs which may contain words and material that I don't feel she is ready to hear. With this CD, she can listen to today's popular songs and I don't have to worry about innapropriate material. So maybe the Kidz Bop singers are not Grammy worthy or appropriate for people who are old enough and mature enough to listen to the actual songs, but my daughter loves Kidz Bop, and that is really all that matters, so in that case, I would definetly recommend this CD.

A Kid's Review

I don't get Kidz Bop. What kid wants to hear other kids sing their favorite songs? You may as well just ask one of your friends to sing to you. And please, whoever makes Kidz Bop, Kidz Bop CDs are bad enough with untalented kids singing back-up, but must you randomly get some even less talented person to do the main singing? I might rather listen to William Hung! Most kids like songs because of who sings them, so why do you think we'll waste our money on your screwy CDs when we can just go buy Clay Aiken's CD to hear HIM sing "Invisible", and Michelle Branch's CD to hear HER sing "Are You Happy Now?"? WHY?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!

Advice to readers: Buy Radio Disney CDs instead. They're clean, and ACTUALLY HAVE THE REAL SINGERS SINGING!!

I saw this CD on TV and I thought it was cute, until I heard these little kids sing. It was horrid! I recommend Now or Totally hits, not this. Oh, and guess what? ANOTHER DUMB CD IS COMING OUT IN LATE AUGUST!!!!!!! ''I can't wait!'' Yes I can, I can wait until they go outta business!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bop = Slop, March 19, 2004

I listened to it and was saddened by what I heard. There are so many real children's artists making music for kids that celebrate childhood. This particular compilation and the whole series is just down right wrong.

Take it from me - do you kids a favor and buy them some real kid's music.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm Perplexed, February 24, 2006

I'm not sure how or why these CDs became so popular. A few reasons you might not want to waste your money on these CDs:

1) The singers aren't kids. Don't let the title and commercials fool you. The title singers (The Kidz Bop Kids) sing very little, belting out lyrics only on the chorus. The lead vocals are done by an adult, who does no justice to these songs or their original artists.

2) The sound quality itself is lacking, too. The lead singer seems to be recorded at a studio, but the kids' part sounds like it was shouted into a microphone at a distance rather than professionally recorded. It's obvious that the lead vocalist was never in the same room with the kids singing backup; the mix is that poorly done.

3) They all sound the same. The lyrics and music seem mostly unchanged, save that they are sucked dry of anything resembling style or flavor and shoved into a cookie-cutter pop style.

4) These aren't kids songs. In many cases, the songs are inappropriate for children. Hey Ya, for example, is not something I'd want my 10-year-old listening to, let alone repeating to friends at school. They have, at least, removed the curse words from those songs that have them.

5) Kids don't like them. Every kid I've talked to prefers the original songs to this overdone nonsense.

If your child is still a child, you should skip this because it isn't suited for younger children. If your kid is a teen, he'll probably prefer the real thing, anyway. My advice is to take a pass on it, either way.

...for the people who thought this was a good idea. I can see the meeting that spawned this awful idea: "Hey, people like pop music, right? And they like hearing kids sing, right? So, why not put 'em together? It'll be great!" And then God struck that entire meeting dead, but apparently not before they'd already sent out memos and kicked this horrifying experience into motion.

I mean, Outkast? I love Outkast. I still love "Hey Ya!" even though it's been overplayed. It's a great, happy, up song. It's also about sex, and you know what? I don't need to hear a bunch of kids singing "Don't want to meet your daddy/just want you in my caddy." I don't *want* to hear kids sing that.

You know what the real travesty is? It's that this is the *sixth* CD in the series. Let's hope God's a little quicker on the trigger when someone thinks about cutting a seventh one of these things.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: NOT SUNG BY ACTUAL ARTISTS!, March 31, 2004

For those people that have seen the commericials and think that these KIDZ BOP albums are real compilations of songs like the NOW CD's, they are not. This album contains clean versions of hit songs sung by a group known as the KIDZ BOP KIDZ. Don't be fooled! Then again, this CD might be good for parents who like to censor their children. As for me, it sucks.

Look, if you want the song, actually buy the CD. Who really wants to hear kids dub over a hit song? That's the equivilant of me singing into the microphone for a song I like, recording it, and making millions. Does anyone here want to hear me sing Nelly? Only $29.95! This deserves a LUEshi/10.<P(...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous tunes that my kids love, March 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kidz Bop 5 (Audio CD)
I bought this for my boys because every time they heard the commercial on tv, they would get up and start dancing. This is the kind of music they play on the radio station we usually listen to, so I was not offended or surprised at all. My boys are too young to understand some of the racier lyrics (outkast's 'hey ya'), so I am not too worried. If your kids are listening to almost any radio station, they hear this stuff every day - it is a compilation of some very popular tunes that kids love. The only difference is that it is sung by kids. And I don't see anything wrong with that.
