Mixed feeling, but it sure is dance-able,
This review is from: Kidz Bop 9 (Audio CD)
The Billboard-topping album Kidz Bop 9 is the latest installment of the independent label Razor and Tie. This is high-intensity music - familiar songs that have been re-recorded with youngsters singing. They're less slick than the original versions, making it easier for kids to sing along and appeal to their own vocal style. The New York Times labels the songs as "shout-along tunes," which is apt, since most of the vocals are, in fact, shouting children.
The songs on Kidz Bop 9 are sophisticated, adult material perhaps not suitable for kids who are... well... kids. Children who are really focused on dating, love and is-he-the-right-one-for-me topics will love the lyrics of this album. It's packed with songs about themes that aren't necessarily sexual in nature but are advanced topics for young children. Kidz Bop 9 is the highest chart position ever for Razor & Tie and the highest charting non-soundtrack children's release in Billboard history. Since their debut in 2001, Kidz Bop titles have sold over seven million copies with seven gold albums to date. So this music is very popular - very uncontrollably popular, in spite of our parental urges to have our children attracted to The Sound of Music soundtrack, The Laurie Berkner Band, or even Raffi. No, kids apparently want to listen to music sung by kids about love and lust. If you can get over that, then try this album out because it's a heck of a good time. The label claims that the music is great for parents, too, which may or may not be true judging by its reviews on Amazon; but I found myself dancing and singing to the music (glancing over my shoulder to make sure no one noticed). It's leave-your-brain-at-the-door entertainment, but like a lot of modern music it's also a great deal of fun once you relax about the fact that, for example, Roxette's "Listen To Your Heart" is being belted out by a very young person with even younger people backing them up. It's hard to imagine how this troupe would do on the road, but I'm sure the stadiums would be packed full of 10-year-olds and their parents, like a Brittany Spears concert but with a lot more shouting. Don't expect your children to have an educational experience listening to Kidz Bop 9, but expect them to move and shout. They won't be alone.--Caity McCardell

These discs serve their purpose very well. Think clearly.,

I am an adult, with children ages five and seven. My own taste in music runs along the indie vein, and so I dislike all the songs on this series just on principle. However, these discs have KIDS singing on them, and this appeals to KIDS. SMALL kids. Those who love the original songs and feel scarred by these renditions should save themselves the grief and stay far, far away from these discs.

This is for kids?,

I bought my 8 year old a couple Kidz Bop cd's for Christmas last year and I regret it. They didn't bother to make sure the lyrics were kid appropriate or even change them if necessary. Aside from the fact that there are some adult themes to these songs, most of the lyrics are way over their heads. I also agree with the previous reviews regarding the fact that the songs suck. If you don't mind your kids listening to these songs, then just buy the cd's by the original artist so you can enjoy them too.

Creepy sign that we are living in a hypercapitalist dystopia.,
This review is from: Kidz Bop 9 (Audio CD)
I agree with most people reviewing this that the music is trash. It takes commercial music which is mediocre at best and has kids and uninspired studio musicians destroy whatever art is left inside.
Before you ignore these claims, and argue that the quality of the music can be overlooked because of the albums "kid friendliness", think about this: What do you want your child to be like in his or her future? Do you want your kids to think for themselves, and make intelligent choices? Do you want them to be happy? This "kidz bop" phenomenon is making kids dead inside. Don't be fooled - This album was not designed to sound good to children. It exists as a medium of reculturization. It eases kids into pop music, and the mass market. It's training kids on how to be stupid, simple, and waste their money on what record companies deem "hip". This album tells kids what they should like, and demands their conformity. Why don't you ask your children what kind of music they want to listen to? If they don't have an idea, offer them a diverse selection of real, unadulterated music that comes from the heart. Be sure to filter out any bands or artists that seem inapropriate or obscene if you wish. Your children will thank you, because the gift of true appreciation for an artform is the greatest gift of all. Just dont shove this crap down your kids throat. Even if they beg and scream for kids bop, know that they are only doing it because they are blinded by fantastic commercials and deceived by their friends and peers. After all, its physically incapable of truly enjoying this album.

That person saying kids will think it's great and teens will say it sucks...NOT TRUE.
I'm 11. I'm not a teen yet. I THINK THEY SUCK. Most of the songs on there are pretty bad in the first place but the adults are trying to immitate the singers voice. THOSE CRAZY ADULTS CAN'T SOUNDS LIKE DAMON ALBARN (2-D FROM GORILLAZ). how kiddies enjoy this...i'll never know. they can't even spell kids right. the z doesn't make them any cooler. little kids should go listen to high school musical where people lip sing but don't actually copy songs. i hate the high school musical fad anyway. just go buy the original albums or songs on iTunes.

Cute CD?,

Oh my. The point that everyone is trying to make is....These songs ARE NOT appropriate for little kids. Why can't a kid be a kid...5-8 year olds shouldn't be singing about 'Boyfriends' and 'ooh my baby this , and ooh my baby that...Does today's cRAPpy industry have to be everywhere? Parents who by this are buying it for their lazy selves...prefering these songs because they know them. Check out EVERY SINGLE Kidzbop CD on Amazon...look at the reviews...Time after Time, review after review, these things are universally HATED!

HIGHLY Innapropriate for children.,
By
This review is from: Kidz Bop 9 (Audio CD)
Several of the tracks included on this collection are innapropriate for children. There are references to drug use, skipping and breaking into school, and some stronger language. While a few of the tracks are probably fine, these songs were written geared towards an adult audience. Having innocent children perform them does not make them child appropriate. My child received this as a gift. Thank goodness I have the foresight to censor what she listens to.

Take it from a middle schooler. This cd is one of the worst ever! It is targeted to elementary students, but conatins songs that teenagers listen to. The lyrics are inapropriate for small children. Kids bop changes the lyrics to the songs to sell them to little kids, but it just messes up the whole thing. The way they sing is enough to give me a migrange! In short never ever buy any kids bop cds, and if I could I would boycott them.

okay to all the people that say its great, we're hearing that, we get it (i'm on the side that hates kidz bop) its just we want them to choose less popular songs. you and me, was a good song, but with kidz singing its just not right, it kills the song. The song just the girl, great, but when 6 year olds sing it, its not right, the guy is loving a girl, where is a child six years of age suppose to like that, and for wut? and personally wake me up when september ends shouldn't be on there, nor could the kids understand it. nickelback is not for children, none of their songs can really be cleaned up, and it is for older kids to teens. all we're asking since they kill the songs is they choose, something like early nysnc or something, stuff that just has rhythms, maybe a phrase, but no serious meaning and nothing popular.
Example: i was about eleven maybe ten and 1985 the song came out, great song yeah, but 2 months later came kids bop with it on the CD, i walked up my friends driveway, kids bop came out with a new cd i said grimly, he replied yeah i know. and kids bop came out whenever, but as soon as the commercials came on, 1985 was a nothing, never was a hit, so it really is hard when we know the song has been changed and that kids are listening to it, it kills it for us. for the people who hate kidz bop: its meant for kids yeah so we gotta get over it. i mean, now with all the rap you usually get into by sixth or seventh grade, u hardly see kidz bop, once ur watching MTV or CMDCentral ur not going to see this stuff, u'll move on, only the superficial music people that love the hits and nothing else, will care now, personally i can't stand most rap, only some of the hits, yeah maybe some of 50, eminem, but i can't stand most of it only hits, but these things won't be on kidz bop so just wait and it won't matter later, personally the people i hang out with we are all metal hard rock and alternative guys so it doesn't matter, stuff kidz bop can't change without making a whole new song, now when they come out with my stuff we'll get the torches, but their not going to come out with snap yo fingers, just a lil bit, or something like that so chill out, and their NOT coming out with avenegesevenfold, or disturbed so we need to chill out.

Okay, I am in fourth grade, and I have a sister in 8th grade. I really think that this music series is awful, and these kids have no idea what the themes are in the songs they sing. My sister listens to some of these songs, and she agrees that they aren't suitable for younger kids to be singing. Moms and Dads, if you want to get your kids something fun and contemporary, please don't buy this! Buy them an Aly and AJ CD. Their music sounds like "big kid" music, but it doesn't have the bad words/themes. You could even buy them a High School Musical soundtrack. I'm pretty sure my choices are much better alternatives than Kids Bop.
