I ordered this thinking it would be a fun way to reinforce what my daughter is learning in preschool. Unfortunately, it uses long vowel sounds instead of short. I am a reading teacher and you never teach long vowel sounds before short. All this toy does is confuse my daughter since it says "A as in ape" instead of "Aaa as in apple" like she learns at school. Don't bother buying this. There are better products out there.

This is a great game for learning letters, letter sounds,eye hand coordination, counting and following instructions. The first one we bought broke after maybe 2 years (?) but it was such a great toy (and inexpensive) that we bought a replacement. Even though he has learned his letters and their sounds now he still likes to play with it especially on long drives and it helps solidify his knowledge.

I read some criticisms about teaching long vs. short vowel sounds because some of the letters rely on long vowel sounds as examples and while admittedly I'm not an early education professional, combined with our other learning techniques, this really did not pose an obstacle whatsoever. He loves the game. It keeps him entertained and it's educational!

My daughter will be two in a few months and she's learning to recognize and say the letters of the alphabet. She LOVES this toy. She's likes hearing it sing the alphabet and she hunts for letters by the picture they name. I think this will help her learn her letters quickly.
