Great way to get medicine into your kids!,
By J P (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kidz Med Pacifier Medicine Dispenser (Baby Product)
I don't understand why they don't have this little device at every single hospital, ER, or any place where little kids might have to drink some medicine.
This was the only way I found to get tylenol, motrin, antibiotics, or cough medicine into my baby... They just use their natural sucking instinct, and slurp down the medicine with no problem. It might take 10-15 minutes, but to me it is worth it to wait a little longer rather than wrestle my kid to the ground, pin their arms and legs down, and get their mouth open to squeeze a little medicine into them. There is also a little plunger to help them along a little bit, but be careful because if you push on it too hard or too much (like when the dropper is full) it might make them gag on the medicine.

Not good for a small baby,

I bought this to use with my 2 month old to dispense a medicine he needs daily. The idea is great but this product is not really suitable for younger babies with smaller mouths. The part that goes in the mouth is about the same size as a 18-month old's pacifier, so it fills a smaller baby's mouth and it's hard for him to suck on and get the meds. It's also quite stiff, so it's hard to suck on too. The plunger sticks a little so if you try to use it to push the meds through, baby ends up with a mouth full of meds and gags or spits it out. The reservoir for the meds is quite small so if you use a syringe to measure out meds and squirt it into the reservoir it can splash out easily. Also you need to hold the pacifier with one hand when filling it up, so you only have one hand to work with. I'm hoping that as baby gets bigger this will become more useful, although the 5ml capacity is quite small. For now I am using a nipple from a baby bottle (which has a flat cap so it can sit on the counter while I measure meds and fill it up).

Works really well,

Our 4 month old is on twice a day, 0.7 ml of meds. While she'll eagerly suck a dropper of tylenol, she absolutely hates the taste of her medicine. We were using a large bottle nipple, and just putting the nipple in her mouth and then putting in her medicine. This worked well most of the time but was cumbersome.
This pacifier is a really smart idea, and a great size. I also tried the Munchkin ones, and they seem to be made for a large volume of medicine. This one has a little straw going to the tip, so when she sucks, she gets all of the medicine. The plunger is there only if you need it or for reassurance that she got everything. We've been using it for the last month - unfortunately, she learned to reject it, but it got us over the hump and will no doubt be useful in the future. Now we use her regular pacifier (green soothie brand) and just put in half a dropperful of the medicine far back in her cheek, while her mouth is open for her pacifier. After several sucks, we do it again with the rest of the meds. Her one drop of Vitamin D goes on the pacifier first, so she also gets that. It was nicer to put the Vitamin D drop and meds in the same kidz med dispenser. So I found the kidz med to be the best of the options, and it worked for the time that we needed it, when she was in the major tongue-thrust phase. Quality wise it is fine, no problems and still in perfect shape. The fit is very tight, so don't worry when you have to pull hard to pop things apart and pull out the plunger. Never had a single problem with leaking.

We use this twice a day every day at my house. Our four-month-old has to take a foul-tasting medicine every day, and when we gave it to her with the dropper, she spit and dribbled most of it out. She takes it with this and doesn't make the terrible faces she made before and keeps it all down. The only potential drawback is that the "pacifier" size is large for a tiny baby. She gagged on it the first couple of times but hasn't done it again. Fantastic product and a real lifesaver!

Great idea that needs a lot of improvement,

This little paci is a great idea! It is in need of improvement, though. It is great for: babies 12 months and older, small quantities of medicine, and for occasional use The medicine holder only holds about 2 mL and is difficult to shut once the liquid is in the holder/syringe part The nipple is way too large for the age group that would get the most benefit from it- (IMO) 0-6mos It cannot be machine washed (I tried) or sterilized as it will warp the syringe The nipple is made of a relatively hard plastic when compared to the soft silicone usually used in pacis I plan to try the Munchkin Medicator next. I hope it works :)

My poor little guy has acid reflux that would really upset him as he tried to eat or sleep. He'd arch his back and belt out a yell causing mom and me no end of upset.
The pediatrician prescribed Zantac but getting that liquid in his mouth was one hurdle. Keeping it there was another. Until I learned about the Kidz Med Pacificer from KK Cool Tools. It's simple, it's easy, and it's effective: put the medicine in the reservoir, put the pacifier in baby's mouth. Done. No leaks, no spills.

I've used this product a few times for gripe water, and it's quite a bother to use. The plunger is SOOOO STIFF, you basically can't use it for anything other than all the way out or all the way in. It really doesn't slide so well. I try to slide the plunger to the exact volume I want to fill it (so baby doesn't swallow a lot of air) but it's really tough to hit that mark. The way you open it (hinged opening)doesn't feel secure or snapped-in, and last night, trying to ensure it was fully closed, I instinctually squeezed it- pushing the plunger in and shooting gripe water everywhere. Then the little guy didn't need it, so I put it in a ziploc in the fridge- and it all leaked out. (I thought it was paci-up, but who knows!) Sigh. It's a real bother. Perhaps it'll be of use if I ever have to give cough syrup or something like that, but I've given up with the gripe water.

Great product but too big for newborns,

This is a great alternative to filling a bottle nipple with medicine and trying to avoid a mess. It doesn't leak and the push plunger really does help empty all the medicine - although as someone else said you have to be gentle so it doesn't slip and shoot too much medicine in. The dispenser tube inside the mouthpiece is large enough that it washes easily when held under hot running tap water. The main problem I had with it was that it was too large for my baby until about 3-4 months, but we used it a lot after that for Woodward's Gripe Water.

This is by far one of the best baby products that I have used. It absolutely does what it says it is supposed to do and made giving my daughter her medicine a breeze (compared to pinning her arms and legs down while trying to give her a syringe full of medicine!) It doesn't leak at all and now I don't have to worry about more pink medicine stains on the carpet!

Purached this for our 1 year old, been usng it for over 6 months even for Tylenol when needed. If your child uses a bink, and hates medicine, this is the way to go!
Plunger is great when we need to "hurry" and get the meds down the hatch even while sleeping. Highly recommend this medicine bink! Easy to clean and VERY efficient! |
