Editorial Reviews

Review

An unusual story book, this one is illustrated with photographs rather than illustrations. It’s a sweet tale about a girl and her doll in Paris with beautiful photographs by Stephanie Rausser. The story truly comes to life with a handmade doll made by Jess Brown that is featured in the book and can be purchased separately. - goop

About the Author

Stephanie Rausser is an advertising and editorial photographer who loves photographing kids, especially her daughter Kiki. She sees the world for all its beauty and humor and loves making it a little more fun, pretty and inviting. She lives in Northern California. Nina Gruener has written two other children's books, Above San Francisco and Above New York. She lives in Petaluma, California, with her husband and two children. Jess Brown has always made dolls for her children, Stella and Tiger. Combining her love of antique textiles and the sensibilities of a comfort doll, she created a line of small rag dolls for her shop, Maude, in Petaluma, California. The dolls quickly won the hearts of adults and children alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Tale December 6, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Kiki and Coco in Paris is a new family favorite in our home. Our 3 year old daughter wants to read this beautifully written book sometimes three times a day! It has blessed me so much to not only read the book with our girl, but to take the pages along on our own journey when we're done. My daughter often recites the last page before bedtime for her own loved ones, "je t'aime, Mama", or "je t'aime, Daddy". Every time we read the story she likes to find her new favorite page. The pictures are all so beautiful and she can relate to each one. Being a school teacher, I am attracted to the timeless quality of the book that only the classics have. This sweet story about a girl and her doll has an element of the classics Corduroy, and The Velveteen Rabit, yet it is an adventure completely its own. This book has found a home on our bookshelf, our laps, and our hearts!

5.0 out of 5 stars je t'aime December 16, 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book is absolutely adorable! I instantly fell in love with the gorgeous photographs that illustrate this precious relationship between a girl and her doll. Their adventure throughout Paris is so relatable. My two little sisters (3 years old and 6 years old) both adore this book and beg for me to read it to them every night before bed, but I must admit that I love the book as much as they do. It is definitely a book all girls should have, both young and old!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique find! December 2, 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book is an amazing collaboration of photography, doll-making, and writing. Every once in a while, you pick up a children's book that is as beautiful to look at, as is touching to read. While reading this book to my 7-year old daughter, I was every bit as mesmerized as she was. The story is touching, and the adventures of Kiki and Coco made me realize that I was long overdue for an adventure of my own. If you have ever (at any point in your life) loved a doll or stuffed animal, you will find yourself tearing up and relating in the most surprising way. Buy this book -- you'll be wanting one for every child on your Christmas shopping list.
