Kikkerland MxyKikker Windup

I bought two of these Kikkerland wind-up toys for my husband's birthday this year; this one and Awika! who on appearance are very similar save for Myxkikker's longer legs and Awika!'s sparkiness.

Hands down, Myxkikker is my favorite - and the kids' favorite too (I couldn't resist giving them a preview of dad's new toys). This wind-up has just the right amount of insectile creepy-coolness that I'd hoped it would; it's every bit the giant leggy arthropod you'd expect it to be. I dare say it's almost cute.

Myxkikker's about twice as long as Awika! at nearly 7" in length. While Awika! struggles to make its way over things like wrinkles in the bedsheets, Myxkikker forges ahead, those super-long antennae bobbing about as he goes. If he hits an obstacle he can't overcome, he flips and keeps going.

A single wind (you wind this creature by turning one of the middle legs around) gets a fair amount of distance, considering its complexity. And, of course, you're treated to a view of all the internal gears and the flywheel which set Myxkikker in motion.

Though you can't choose color, mine is similar to that which is pictured (except mine has red-tipped antennae). I was pleased with the one I received, especially since I've discovered that the gears are all made of glow-in-the-dark material. Don't know if this is true for all color variations, or better yet, if you'd ever find yourself playing with this thing in a dark room, but it seemed worth mentioning.

In any case, if you're undecided on which of these Kikkerland wind-ups to purchase, I guarantee you can't go wrong with this one.

Best of the lot. Bug like look is great for kids. Durable and climbs over objects better than most in the line. Gears do not jam like some earlier mmodels. If just getting one, get this one.

a neat wind up toy. Be aware that I thought it was missing the wind up key but in actuality it didn't need it as you can wind it by turning the middle wheel with the spiral printed on it. Received as advertized and works great

I bought this toy for my 6 year old who requested wind up toys for his birthday. This toy is very durable and fun to play with! It actually works on the carpet and crawls over things.

This is the second one in our "Kikkerland family", Awika! was the first. MxyKikker does not have sparks, like Awika!, but he is a Climber! I don't know which one is better, my son likes both of them.(I won't buy it for a kid under 8 though).

Every time we visit a customer my hubby is messing with the stuff people have on their desk, so this time a got him something he can play without people watching with a high brow. The toy moves like a walking stick and seems sturdy. I think I'm gonna start a collection!

Kind of disappointed. Works fine, just not as much fun as we thought it would be. I guess our expectations were too high. I understand all the positive reviews and the thing sure looks neat! Travels about seven feet on a full "wind". Not a ton of excitement here. Good at climbing.

I guess we expected more based on how cool it looks. But it does no more or less than promised.

You and your family and/or husband or whatever might get more joy out of it than we did.

windups out there. My daughter had one and my son wanted his own. travels over small obstacles.

My nephew received this toy for Christmas and all the other kids loved it. So I pulled it up on Amazon and ordered it. It is simple and different than any other toy I've seen. I will purchase other windup bugs from Kikkerland. Just love it!

Works well like most Kikkerland products. Just interesting to see all the parts come together as it waddels across the table. Wife loves it. Goes well with the rest of her collection. Delivery was quick and easy
