Product Description

Sommelier knife, waiter's friend or wine key in fun Penguin design. The penguin's wing extends to brace against the lip of the bottle for leverage when removing the cork. Features serrated foil cutter for removing foil wrapping. Also works great as a bottle opener for beer or soda.

Sort of... Wine bottle opener?
Snow
Design flaw as pivot points located at same point thus there is no leverage to pull cork from bottle.
Disappointed
I bought this for a friend who just got her bartending license, I think she will love it.

Received this as a gift... tried to open a bottle of wine with it, but it's made in such a way that it is impossible to use as a wine key-type bottle opener. I would give it zero stars if I could. This is no better than using the swiss army knife corkscrew... only buy this if you like penguins and don't like wine!

I received this as a stocking stuffer from my girlfriend. I was excited to try it but the rounded portion of the metal support prevents you from pulling the cork out. I had to pull the cork straight out and popped the cork out of the wine. The foil cutter was the best part, it was sharp, and I didn't notice it wiggling like others have mentioned.

If you're buying this because you like penguins and the bottle opening function is a bonus, it's not so bad. If you're buying it as a wine opener and think it's a bonus that it looks like a penguin, don't buy it.

Though a daunting challenge, our top scientists have managed to crack the corked bottle dilemma with a miraculous invention called the corkscrew. The innovative trailblazers at Kikkerland have decided to forgo this antiquated design and have started from scratch, drumming up a fresh new take on wine serving that utilizes a "non-functional" twist on the old classic. From casual wine drinkers to aficionados, everyone will enjoy looking at this hunk of metal sitting un-used on the counter top, as the sorry person who received this as a gift reddens with embarrassment and apologizes for not being able to serve wine.

Much like the penguin this corkscrew is modeled after, this thing will not fly. Does not work. Don't waste your money.

Very cute! Only problem is that the corkscrew takes some effort to maneuver out and the little knife flops around. Cute, but disappointed with functionality.

Has anyone else gotten this corkscrew? I have been a server and bartender for 14 years and I have never seen anything like this. I couldn't find any possible way to make this work as a corkscrew to open my wine? Just wondering if it's just something I am doing wrong or a design flaw?

If you to collect penguins or corkscrews this is a clever piece. If however, you want to open a bottle of wine with it, forget it. This thing was designed to look like a penguin not to open a Cheville Blanc. Foil cutter sticks inside the handle too, good luck getting that out. Not useful at all. If you need a corkscrew get a waiter's 2 step.

As several people have mentioned, as a corkscrew, André is rather useless when it comes to opening wine. I haven't tried André's bottle opening function, yet. Once screwed into the cork, you gotta go old school with André and wiggle that ish out. As a corkscrew I'd rate André with 1 star.

But, André is a penguin. Being a penguin, I had to give André an extra 2 stars. So André had 3 stars.

I know what you're thinking at this point. "But, amazon dot com reviewer, you gave André 4 stars! What gives?"

Well, amazon dot com review reader, I gave André an extra star because while sitting outside on my balcony, a tiny almost invisible creepy as f()ck bug started scooting across the table where my wine was resting (tired from me drinking the ish out of it). André sprung into action! I picked him up, and crushed the bug with André's butt.

Way to earn those extra stars, André the Penguin Corkscrew.
