Product Description

Style Name: Penguin

Sommelier knife, waiter's friend or wine key in fun Penguin design. The penguin's wing extends to brace against the lip of the bottle for leverage when removing the cork. Features serrated foil cutter for removing foil wrapping. Also works great as a bottle opener for beer or soda.

Customer Reviews

Sort of... Wine bottle opener?

Was able to open two bottles before the screw stayed in the cork on the third.

It's perfectly made and very durable.

I saw this and needed to have it! I bought for myself for Xmas and was so excited to use it. The corkscrew broke off the product the very first bottle I tried to open. I couldn't even open my bottle. I wish I could return it and get a refund. Although the design is very appealing, the product was not worth it since it doesn't work. You can get this just for show, but not for practical use.

Received this as a gift... tried to open a bottle of wine with it, but it's made in such a way that it is impossible to use as a wine key-type bottle opener. I would give it zero stars if I could. This is no better than using the swiss army knife corkscrew... only buy this if you like penguins and don't like wine!

My wife was given this as a gift, and it broke on the first bottle. The corkscrew itself just popped right out. Appears to be a wide-ranging issue, enough so that we will avoid other products by Kikkerland in the future.

The screw part of the corkscrew broke off the first time i tried to open a wine bottle. Very poorly made. I am returning this for a refund.

I received this as a stocking stuffer from my girlfriend. I was excited to try it but the rounded portion of the metal support prevents you from pulling the cork out. I had to pull the cork straight out and popped the cork out of the wine. The foil cutter was the best part, it was sharp, and I didn't notice it wiggling like others have mentioned.

If you're buying this because you like penguins and the bottle opening function is a bonus, it's not so bad. If you're buying it as a wine opener and think it's a bonus that it looks like a penguin, don't buy it.

Clearly, this was designed as a piece of art vs. functional wine screw. Was able to open two bottles before the screw stayed in the cork on the third. IF that happens, get a plier and pull with a partner. I'll keep it on my counter - but it's no longer functional.

Style Name: Owl
Kikkerland flubbed the design with the Owl corkscrew. It does not work like a waiter's corkscrew. The bottle opener part (the "owl's wing"), does not have the usual indentation toward the end. Accordingly, it does not brace properly against the mouth of the wine bottle. Even if that design flaw were corrected, the owl's wing would not provide any leverage because it pivots from the same point as the corkscrew. Unfortunately, I relied on the early 5-star reviews on Amazon when I bought this thing instead of looking over the product carefully. Shame on me.

Opener that appeared online looked to be of great quality. Upon using it, it wont close unless all the pieces are aligned and the stars with it. Very clunky, sheared metal off the center post during operation, do not recommend.
