Kikkerland Mini Samurai Umbrella. This idea is reflected here as the gentleman's umbrella meets the warrior's sword. When today's refined man grasps the umbrella's handle on the commute to the office, he becomes the ninja. My mom thought I would be wasting my money on this umbrella. No sir-ee!! Ive had many umbrellas blown away or broken by the heavy NYC winds and lemme tell ya, this umbrella has survived them. The water comes/slides off easily once your indoors and the handle is a great grip! Only peeve is that its uncomfortable to carry around since the handle isnt a hook but I can deal with it. It's also a bit heavy. All in all, great investment. Better than buying 1-5 dollar umbrellas that will only last you 3-4 uses.

This is a sturdy umbrella unlike those cheap umbrellas that will break on you if the wind blows during a rainstorm. It is a decent size which gives ample coverage for even large framed people. In fact, it is a good size for the trunk of your car or a mid to large size briefcase.

The umbrella does not have a cord, so you cannot hang it on a hook when not in use. Also, in order to retain its "sword" appearance, care must be taken to wrap the umbrella tightly once it is dry.

I bought this product after having a good experience with the bigger version (see here: Samurai Sword Ninja Folding Umbrella Auto Release). The large version is very sturdy and well constructed. This mini version, however, feels very cheap and poorly constructed. When extended, and held up, you can feel the product wobble where the pieces of the shaft are connected. It feels like it could break or blow away at the first sign of a gust. The shaft seems to be made of pretty cheap aluminum, whereas the large version is constructed of strong graphite.

tl;dr version: Feels very cheap and flimsy, especially when compared to the large version. Returning.

I bought this umbrella a couple months ago because I thought that it looked interesting and pretty cool. It just started raining where I live a few weeks ago, so I got to finally use it. After only 1 week of using it it stopped closing properly. I had to force the umbrella shut, and then it would randomly extend itself. Finally today it broke. I was just holding it (it was closed) and it extended and opened itself and the umbrella part detached from the pole and won't reattach. So after 2 weeks of moderate use I now have a $20.00 piece of trash.

During the first week of using my umbrella I noticed that when it's open it's kind of shaky. Close to the end of the first week, it the umbrella would occasionally fly off the handle when opened by pressing the button.

The first time I opened this up, it worked nicely. That's about the only good thing I can say about it. The first time I tried to use it in the rain, however, the trigger jammed and the umbrella refused to fold back down properly until I manually strangled it back together. After that, the entire upper portion shot clean off when trying to reopen and no longer works right. Also, the cloth sheathe that came with it is much too tight.

I had purchased the full sized model a year ago and found it to be functional enough, even if I paid more for look than quality. I'd return this if I hadn't been frustrated enough to shove it in the nearest wastebin on the way to my car.

My son loved this gift, that's what made it so disappointing when it broke: from using it as an umbrella, NOT as a sword. The locking mechanism is poorly designed, had to be "fiddled" with to stay collapsed. After only the second use, when it was opened, the canopy sprang loose from the telescoping shaft!

(Updated) Like everyone else who's bought this, I was drawn by the handle design. It's the only thing about it that has kept me from throwing it away. Let's talk about how this thing was constructed though. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to make all the links so damn thin. Some of the attachments are literally paper clips; I kid you not. They are lodged inside the pathetically thin aluminum joints to keep you from noticing...not that it'll matter, because this thing is bound to fall apart and expose this atrocious design flaw even in mild wind. This is a downright defective umbrella. The handle is very loose and shaky and the entire umbrella is extremely difficult to control in the wind, it even spins along the axis of the handle form how loose it is. I got the small version because I heard that quite a few people have been receiving negative attention from the police (including arrest) for having it strapped on their back, so I wanted to be able to tuck this in a bag and conceal it. It does that job well, but as for working as an actual umbrella should, it completely fails in that department. I was worried this would happen, as many people are reporting that the bigger one is constructed in a more sturdy fashion...I certainly feel like I made a terrible mistake buying this one. At first when I reviewed this, I thought it was better than those 4 dollar pieces of junk you find in Wall Mart that get destroyed after one gust of wind..but that's only because it wasn't terribly windy the first day I used it. The very next day when it got more windy than normal, it completely uprooted, and snapped several of the plastic and ridiculous paper-clip links that keep the umbrella together...now it is next to useless.Read more ›
