Cute, but poorly designed,

The monkey bank is definetly cute and has a "soft coat" making it pleasent to touch, but it is much smaller than I expected. It also has a poorly designed rubber disk to access the bank which a child can easily push in to the bank. Once you get it out (which is awkward), it is also a bit awkward getting it back into the hole, and it clearly leaves plenty of opportunity for a kids hard earned savings to fall out. Still, my five year old does love it because it is tactile and he visually relates to it. I bought a Schylling Rubber Piggy Bank from Amazon at the same time which while more expensive, totally overcomes my objections. My son splits the pennies and nickles he earns, using the smaller monkey bank for his savings, and the bigger piggy bank for charity.

I ordered this bank because I like monkeys and novelty ape items, and I needed a bank to keep change in. This bank looks and feels nice. It seems like it can be quite sturdy. While other reviews said it was small, I bought it anyway. The bank is actually about the size of an adult male fist or an apple. Keep this in mind if you're set on using it for long-term change holding purposes.
