I love soy sauce, and Kikkoman makes the best. This large size bottle is good for cooking, or use it to refill the little tabletop bottles. The lid snaps open for convenience and to help control the flow.

Soy sauce can flavor anything and make it all delicious. Just pouring it over rice is enough to enhance a meal. Chicken, beef, pork chops -- I put it on just about everything I cook and my kids think I'm a genius.

We use a lot of soy sauce in our household, and so, if we buy the little bottles, we go through them awfully fast. That's why I like to get Kikkoman Soy Sauce in the largest quantity possible. It's cheaper per ounce that way, and the bottle lasts a lot longer. Soy sauce is great on just about any Chinese (or other) stir fry. Use it in cooking the stir fry and add more to taste while eating. I also like it as a flavoring for rice, which by itself can be pretty bland. It's also a great ingredient when making a marinade for meat, particularly for beef. So, there's lots of uses. Most brands of soy sauce are pretty good, but Kikkoman is my favorite. Its taste is a bit stronger than most.

For such a common product, Kikkoman has managed to appeal to my taste buds, and I think most comparisons become quite obvious when sampled side by side. Consistency is extremely important when using such a condiment, which by nature, is typically consumed a few drops at a time. I’ve used soy sauces where there was a dark colored liquid, but virtually no flavor, and others on the opposite side of the spectrum where it appears the bottle was filled with some sort of atomic sodium.

For a mass produced product, Kikkoman still employs one ingredient most corporations avoid; time. In an age where vinegar is distilled in a matter of hours, and vanilla extract produced in a day or so, Kikkoman still brews this sauce for months. I’m sure there are scientific ways to accelerate this process, but the mellowing allowed via the passage of time is still favored for this particular sauce. Considering the length of manufacturing this appears to be quite a value as well for a half gallon. Just store it in the dark, as soy sauce doesn’t like the light and you should have a ready supply for quite some time.

The product arrived in an easily handled two quart bottle with a flip top lid that covers a ¾ inch hole. Obviously (I hope this is obvious) an orifice this size is for filling soy dispensers or use in a commercial kitchen, and not as a dispensing device for your plate of rice. Yet I have this feeling that more than one person has used a half gallon container for this purpose, flooded their meal with the stuff, then blamed the sauce. If this is your first experience with bulk soy sauce, then supplement your table with a small dispenser. Ceramic or porcelain make good choices since they keep the light out, and the insulating qualities of those materials keep the sauce relatively cool, which maintains the flavor profile and shelf life.

So after many years of sampling various sauces, I have arrived at this station of being a… Kikko-man.

This is the best soy sauce that I have purchased. Come to think of it, it is the only kind I have purchased. I use it in a jerky marinade. It does have a lot of sodium in it but I figure most soy sauce does. Says to refrigerate after opening so if you don't use a lot at one time this might be an issue.

I like soy sauce, always have. But I especially came to love it back when I was on the Atkins diet. I was on Atkins years ago and did very well. But like a lot of people I gained it back when I went back to my old carb ways. When I decided to go on it again, what I remember not liking about Atkins before was the dryness of everything. Especially the meats. You can eat all the meat you want on Atkins, but sauces of all kinds are forbidden. I got really tired of just eating meat dry with nothing but spices for flavoring. Soy sauce would certainly not be my first choice all the time over a tomato, wine, or mushroom sauce for example, but when compared to eating steak or some other kind of meat dry, soy sauce is a downright delicacy...My usual meal when I make a typical Atkins steak or chicken stir fry is to add some soy sauce for flavoring, and it makes it a much tastier meal opinion. And its also salty which is not a bad thing when on Atkins...

This Kikkoman brand is not only very well known, and, very good, but its also a real bargain in this gallon size bottle. I have a couple of glass bottles of other brands of soy sauce in the house and I just refill them with this. It's rich, really good tasting, and the full sodium blend that Atkins actually recommends. I get it all the time for its price and flavor and recommend it. Even if you don't even need Atkins...

Tired of dishing out so much money for a little jar of it at the local store. Now I just refill it with this big baby and I'm good to go.

Now, this is a cheapo sauce - kinda like cheapo wine I would drink with every dinner. So don't expect crazy and exciting bursts of flavor here! However, it gets 5 stars from me for the combination of the solid flavor profile (earthy, subtly umami, not at all sweet, easy on salt) and the incredible price. I dump it on everything from rice to beans to fish to steamed vegetables. Love it, have been buying it for years, and will continue buying it.
