Editorial Reviews

Product Description

2004 album from Japan's category splitting OOIOO (pronounced oh-oh-eye-oh-oh) and their first for Thrill Jockey. OOIOO features Yoshimi, one of the most interesting avant-rock artists making music today. OOIOO has always been the best outlet from Yoshimi to articulate her unique talents, and the swirling, dreamy tunes of Kila Kila Kila are the most skilled showcase of her vision as an artists to date. Kila Kila Kila is a perfect combination of the chaotic poppy grooves for which Yoshimi is known, and the psychedelic freak-outs of the Boredoms. Kila Kila Kila is the perfect antidote to the legions of watered-down drone pop, and a natural heater for an otherwise cold winter. Thrill Jockey.

Biography

OOIOO, led by Yoshimi P-We of the Boredoms, has always cultivated its own intense musical language that is 100% OOIOO. 4 years of work went into to making Galmel, their bold new album inspired by ancient Javanese style of gamelan, which has recently attracted attention for its healing powers. The introduction of this traditional form transformed the group into a super tribe, one-stepping the ... Read more in Amazon's Ooioo Store

This the first OOIOO album I have heard in full, but it is totally awesome. Every song floats into the next, and when you're done w/ the album you think to yourself ''why isn't this album already on loop.''
The first nite I got this album I listened to it on loop for several times, then fell asleep to it. It totally weirded me out in a good way. I awoke to the sound of little kids at my bedroom window, but it was just the 'Kila Kila Kila'. Bad ass!

Whenever I hear something and I am not sure what, I know I have stepped in something good, and here, it is this ooioo album

This is a long sound collage of free jamming, fuzz guitar, and space rock. It also contains noise. sound, and confections which sound a little like scraps of soul.

When I first played this album, I was overwhelmed, but in a way where I knew I snagged a big fish, and it was going to take time to digest each delicious part. Yummy--an album for a lifetime with more than enough aural supply to go around

This music is old school in that it is all encompassing, with complete disregard for genre boundaries. Yet this is no patchwork 1960s piece, as each part is timed and executed perfectly. At this feast, there is no cheese.

Speaking of 1960s--this music does not sound like Yoko Ono, but is informed by that experimental sense with no lines, no walls, no constrictions. The real deal.

Amazing. You gotta get it.

cute track listing typo's (such as the one above) aside, OOIOO are serious about making subtle, wide branching psychedelia.

To put it simply and clearly, this sounds exactly like a collaboration between tortoise and deerhoof would.

loose, jazzy, grooving jams full of jaggered guitars, trumpets and sun-kissed beds of colourful sounds are married with yoshimi's odd vocal yelps.

great stuff for fans of noise pop and jazzy post-rock, who are after something inventive yet mellow and full of grooves.

This album will blow your mind. First of all, there are a number of individual sounds each memeber of this band produces which are beautiful on a whole new level. Also, the songwriting is so epic and so gorgeous that you will have to think about something sad in order to make yourself stop smiling.

If you're ready for an entirely fresh musical journey, please just buy this record.
