A Delightful Interpretation of the Vespers, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Kile Smith: Vespers (Audio CD)
Vespers is an exciting release by composer Kile Smith that personifies his own vision of the musical style of the High Renaissance by composing a modern day interpretation of the vespers traditions. It is clear that Kile Smith knows this genre extremely well, and is a master of the choral and instrumental writing that typifies late 16th century Renaissance music. Featured is two wonderfully precise ensembles that specialize in early music, Piffaro, the instrumental ensemble directed by Joan Kimball and Robert Wiemken and The Crossing, the chorus directed by Donald Nally. Also included in the CD release is enhanced content that features complete scores and photos of the ensembles during the recording sessions. I highly recommend this release, which demands repeated listening.
