5.0 out of 5 stars Colorful fiction on the Irish Potato Famine., March 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kilgoran (Hardcover)
This book follows the lives of several families through the horrors and rare beauty of the 1840's-1850's Irish Potato Famine. It's the story of a young woman who grows up beyond and despite her idealistic expectations of love and marriage.

While Mrs. Crowley hasn't written a book bashing England's horrific role in the famine, one is not left without a clear and concise education on the culpability of England's powers.

Learning about the famine through family members who are the third and fourth generation Potato Famine survivors does not compare to the reality of this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, February 3, 2010
This review is from: Kilgoran (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this book very much. It was written in such a way that my interest didn't lag at any time. The plot kept moving and the characters were interesting. The history of the Irish potato failure and how those who could have helped but didn't, was factual I believe, and because of that fact, disturbing and a blight on human history. I recommend it as a good read.
