Captivating!

Ever read one of those books you just didn't want to put down? Here's another one!

This is a well-written tale of four men who travel to Tanznia to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. The men don't know each other before the trip, but bond and share as the climb progresses. Told from the perspective of one of the climbers, the story is intriguing and vivid. I felt like I was right there with the climbers and, as the story moved forward, inspired to travel to Africa to make the climb myself.

The author has made the climb twice, so the descriptions and story line are accurate and compelling. The promotional copy for the book suggests that the primary theme of the book is how the four men overcome their personal struggles. Anticipating one of those sappy moralistic tales, I braced myself for the Lessons Learned messages stuffed between paragraphs or at the end of chapters.

Surprise! No interruptions. No moralizing. No preaching. No psychologists lurking behind the next snowbank. The messages, the learnings, are there, but subtle.

This is a good read for those who enjoy inspirational books, for people who would like to learn and grow from learning about unusual experiences, and for young folks who have little appreciation of hardship and life beyond their limited knowledge. Recommended.
