This review is from: Kilkelly (Audio CD)
I am again listening to Kilkelly for probably the 100th time in as many weeks. It is hard to describe this CD, it has everything from plantive melodies like Kilkelly and Peter Pan and Me to Irish Jigs; Maids of Selma and Dancing Tables. I think my favorite piece is The Green Fields of America especially The Night That Paddy Murphy Died and The Likeable Lovable Leitram Lad. I find it difficult not to sing and dance along with the music it so captivating.

This review is from: Kilkelly (Audio CD)
I consider this album worthwhile just for the very sensitive rendition of the song Kilkelly; but the centerpiece of the album is the ``operetta'' "The Green Fields of America", combining songs and tunes into a tapestry that details the whole story of Irish imigration to America. Also notable is the song "Peter Pan and Me", about the loss of innocence during the troubles. The two tune sets are fun and are played with spirit, but they're not the focus of the album. This isn't a cd I listen to often, but it's one that always affects me when I do pull it out.

Years ago I saw them perform several times and had this and There Were Roses, and listened to them endlessly. I lost all my cd's in a move and have never found any of these but have been looking. Just ordered There Were Roses but next check will order this one.
If you ever saw them in person they complimented each other so perfectly. A couple of times we went to both shows we just didn't get enough. I listened to the cd so much I knew the words. There is so much life and joy and sadness mixed in this music, but Kilkelly is the most evocative of all. Just sit back and listen and close your eyes and think of leaving and never seeing home. This version is one of the best I've ever heard. These songs, even the anticipation of the purchase, brings back wonderful memories of awesome concerts which could have gone on for hours longer without any problem at all.
