Well, I listened to this album twice, so I wouldnt feel biased while writing this review. Yes, Quentin Tarantino is a genius at movie soundtracks--but this aint one of them. Maybe because the movie isnt out yet and I have no idea how each track is woven into the scene or because Vol.1's track listing is much more likable. This album just doesnt excite me, like Vol. 1...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Quality Soundtrack, December 11, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
OK, so you've seen the movie, you have the DVD, why buy the soundtrack too? Because many of the songs are so good you don't want to have to watch the whole movie to hear them again, that's why!
I rarely buy soundtracks. They are usually just filled with snippets of songs and a lot of unrewarding crap. But Kill Bill Vol. 2 is different. There are so many interesting and unusual songs featured in the movie that owning the sountrack is a necessary adjunct to the movie for those whose musical tastes are wide-ranging. When I saw the movie, Chingon's Malaguena Salerosa is the song that told me to order the soundtrack.
That song is not the only reason to buy this of course. There is so much more to enjoy. I really like Goodnight Moon, Tu Mira, A Satisfied Mind, About Her, and Urami Bushi as well. And each of those songs is different from one another as day is from night. Of course, there are some great instrumentals too. I've always liked Ennio Morricone's work, but my favorite here is Luis Bacalov's Summertime Killer. And let's not forget the unlisted rap song that closes out the CD. I never cared for rap, but that one is at least palatable, even enjoyable!
A few dialogues unnecessarily littered about knock a star off this. If you liked the film and you like the music, there is no good reason not to own the CD. Add the Kill Bill Vol II soundtrack to your CD collection soon!

Maybe because the movie isnt out yet and I have no idea how each track is woven into the scene or because Vol.1's track listing is much more likable. This album just doesnt excite me, like Vol. 1 does. If I never heard Vol. 1 and only Vol. 2, I probably still wouldnt have liked this. However, some great standout tracks here are "Il Tramonto", "Can't Hardly Stand It", "The Chase" and "Urami Bushi"--this track is rolling during credits of Vol. 1 I believe, and it didnt make the cut for that. But overall this effort is not as fluid as Vol. 1's diversity and that's how the cookie crumbles.

3.0 out of 5 stars missing songs spoilt it for me, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
i too wish i had been more careful and read the reviews, then i would have noticed all the missings songs and that the main one i wanted ( navajo joe - ennio morricone --bills exit ) was not on there. i still would have bought it but would not have been so dissapointed when i got to the end. i also feel very cheated.
what is the point of bringing out a soundtrack and missing out songs? should it not be all of them?
i feel bills exit music was a key song that should not have been missed off, as this scene is the whole point of the films, when she finally gets her revenge and should not have been missed.

worth buying but a dissapointment

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy the original first before concidering this one, April 13, 2004
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
I have been in anticipation of Vol. 2 every since the beginning of the year and I thought to buy the new soundtrack.

After listening to the second soundtrack, I felt Tarantino ran out of steam when it came to the second dose of aural entertainment. Maybe this does mean that there is more dialogue/plot to this film than in the last. For starters, you definately get a different vibe from this. Since the tale takes place in Mexico and SW USA, it seems best that there is more music of that area/genre (Ennio Morricone, Johnny Cash, Luis Bacalov) He kept some other mainstays in order to keep this film in tune with the other (Charlie Feathers, Meiko Kaji). However this time the songs brake in parts and the dialogue comes in unusual places and suggest more a teaser to the film than in other Tarantino soundtracks. "Tu Mira" seems to brake to much into Charlie Feathers; "About Her" into Morricone. This soundtrack certainly doesn't have the clinchers the first had ("Battle Without Honor or Humanity", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Flower of Carnage"). The opening song "Goodnight Moon" by Shivaree is a good choice for this film, although it doesn't stand a chance against "Bang Bang". Although this is not as good as I would have hoped from Tarantino, this is still a good collection for those of us who have been Quentin-heads for years. Or if you are interested in Spaghetti Western soundtracks. As for the casual listener, I would not recommend this.

BTW: Go see the movie this weekend instead of The Punisher. (That trend has gotten awfully tiresome already.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing the most important songs, September 16, 2005
By
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
There are two types of soundtracks, those you buy because they contain music "inspired by" the movie, and those you buy because the actual movie music is good. This is the latter, and that is why it dissapoints so terribly.

Yes, the songs on the soundtrack are good, however, what's missing is the main reason anyone would want this disk in the first place. First of all, the score that Robert Rodriguez wrote for 1$ is not featured at all. AT ALL. Now to say that this was a terrible tragedy would be lying. However, Some of his music is very good (see the song when Elle is packing up the money in Bud's trailer). It's classic spaghetti western done up in modern awesomeness, and it's very remeniscent of his score for Once upon a Time in Mexico.

Secondly, the best part of this CD is the Ennio Morricone songs, but even in their glory, they still arent his best work. His best work, such as the theme from a Fistfull of Dollars, is featured in the movie, but again, not in the soundtrack. This is just awful.

Lastly, probably the best and most epic song in the movie is "the Sunny Road to Selina" when Beatrix is walking through the desert. It's grand and epic and its heartbreaking as it segways into the second major confrontation of the movie. And again, it's not on the soundtrack. Like any of the previous mentioned complaints, this is the worst. Primarily because the song is impossible to find in the states, and nearly impossible to find in Europe. Come on Tarantino, if you could get the rights to play this in your movie, you could get the rights to put it on the soundtrack. No excuse.

Forgiving the fact that dialogue tracks are laughable and unnecessary, I'm knocking 2 stars off this cd because of the above mentioned faults. However, the music that is on the cd is worth listening to, especially "The Chase."

Only buy this cd if you like the actual songs on it. If you like the score, or similar music get Morricone's soundtracks and get the track for Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Not As Good As The Original, April 13, 2004
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
Being incredibly excited to see Volume 2 of Tarentino's epic love story, I rushed out this morning and bought the soundtrack. I already own the first one, and it has become a favorite of mine, whereas this one doesn't seem quite as strong.

Tracks such as "Summertime Killer" and "A Silhouette Of Doom" (both of which are on seperate trailers for Volume 2) build a strong foundation, while "Tu Mira" and "Malaguena Salerosa" give you the unique guitar strumming mexicano style tunes that you'd expect to hear in a film set south of the border as opposed to the Samuri swordfights seen in Kill Bill. Old time songs such as "Can't Hardly Stand It" and "A Satisfied Man" may remind you of your grandfather, and the spoken dialogues will have you climbing the walls with anticipation for the gore-tacular finale when The Bride does in fact Kill Bill.

All in all a good album, but it simply can't compete with the haunting "Twisted Nerve," amazing Nancy Sinatra cover of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," sporatic "Green Hornet" or hypnotizing beat of "Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" from Volume 1.

Hillary "jezebelxiii" (abington, ma United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
There are very few times that a director puts songs to a film and actually end up MAKING the movie. Kill Bill 1 & 2 are perfect examples of this. The music was imperative to the mood of the film. It worked. Oh yes, it worked.

Though the CD is strong all around, two songs blew my socks off on Volume 2. About Her, by Malcolm McLaren, was a perfect mix of the Zombie's original tune, and it's played at a quintesential moment in the movie. Perfectly timed, this remix is to drool over. I also feel that Goodnight Moon by Shivaree is a fabulous find. It may have only been played during the credits, but it was the tune that made me HAVE to buy this disk.

Like other reviewers, I sincerely hope that Tarantino releases the other songs played during the movie that didn't make Volume 1 or 2. I would LOVE to buy the box set. In the meanwhile, though, I'm going to bop along to the music I do have, because it's that damn good.

Really, how can you go wrong with a soundtrack that includes Johnny Cash's A Satisfied Mind?

In my opinion, you can't.

Happy listening!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's Rodrieguez?, March 16, 2005
This review is from: Kill Bill: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
This is a decent soundtrack. However, one of the things I was looking forward to that I didn't find on the soundtrack would be Robert Rodrieguez's original score music. Specifically a sinister instrumental reprise of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" and a melancholy theme for Budd (Micheal Madsen).

However, the strangely appealing, jazzy, paranoid track "Goodnight Moon" by Shivaree almost makes up for it.
