Editorial Reviews

Kill Devil Hill is a super group consisting of famed bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny Appice (former drummer with Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell), guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and vocalist Dewey Bragg. The band are gearing up to release their self-titled debut album on May 22nd via SPV/Steamhammer. In 2009 Vinny had found the perfect guitarist in Zavon, who was also looking to start a new band. Zavon played a demo he had recorded with vocalist Dewey Bragg, and Vinny was floored. With the three members in place Vinny asked his long time friend Rex Brown to play bass on a demo track called War Machine Rex immediately agreed and the final puzzle piece was in place for the formation of Kill Devil Hill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!! May 23, 2012
By Scott
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have never written or commented on a CD before, but I am really impressed with this CD. I definately see elements of all of their previous work and the vocals are similar to the great Layne Staley of Alice in Chains. What a GREAT new band!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!!!!! May 26, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Dewey Bragg has KILLER Pipes which which at times are very reminiscent of Layne Staley. With Brown and Appice hammering down the bottom end of these tunes I knew I would like this CD, but it has surpassed my expectations and is an EPIC release. I can't recommend this CD enough!! It is almost like Sabbath and Alice in Chains had a child. Get this CD yesterday!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kill Devil Hill Rocks! May 26, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
They are a great band to see live, and their album does not sound contrived in any sort of way. These are just four experienced guys who love what they are doing, and they do it well.

3.0 out of 5 stars C+ Metal January 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought the CD after seeing an episode of "That Metal Show" with Rex from Pantera discussing his new band. I figured I'd take a shot on it. I only hope that their next album is an upgrade, because while it wasn't a bad album, it wasn't all that great either. Not a single song really stuck out to me and after I played the whole album through in the car on the way home from work one day I have yet to have the desire to play it again. Maybe if I listen to it again it will grow on me, but it was okay, but forgettable. But your mileage may vary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Far better than I anticipated! June 7, 2012
By J. Lamb
Format:Audio CD
I didn't have terrbily high expectations for this album. I know, I know, it has Rex and Vinnie but I've been a bit put out by some of the mediocre music from great musicians working in different groups. Kill Devil Hill is an exception to me. Part of Rex's reasons for leaving Down were to do something different. This is something different than anything I've from him before. His bass sounds freaking awesome on most of the tracks. The vocalist is on the mark, the guitar solos are more interesting than any I've listened to in a while and Vinnie is...well, he's Vinnie Appice. What more can you ask?

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer songs, good production June 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Love it. We caught them in Dallas a month ago and bought the CD the next day. Come on - it's a no-brainer. Vinny is a lock - always makes good stuff. Rex is just a monster. The singer, Dewey, is pure gold - love him.

This album is by far one of the greatest rock pieces since Alice in Chains roamed like Dinosaurs in a vast land.

A far cry from Pantera but nice to hear something good with talent for a change. Musically very good and worth the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for hard metal folks.
This is a great album, with a lead singer who has a decent voice, no nails on a chalk board. I would rate it higher but I lean toward more melodic rock like the Foo Fighters,... Read more
