Editorial Reviews

The names associated with this new project are true legends on the hard rock scene: on the vocals - Doogie White (Rainbow, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen), on the drums - Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, DIO), on the bass - Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), who join forces with the 15-year-old Polish guitarist Iggy Gwadera (Anti Tank Nun).

This should be mother's milk for fans of Ronnie James Dio's music from Rainbow, through Sabbath, and early solo material, as well as Hell Bent For Leather era Judas Priest, I can also hear elements of UFO, Thin Lizzy, Bangalore Choir, Accept, and Malice in their music. The production is good and tight with lots of bottom end punch as you would expect with a monster Rhythm section like Vinny Appice and Marco Mendoza. The guitar slinger is promising Polish teenager Iggy Gwadera, who plays fast and dextrously without sounding at all like an EVH or Yngwie disciple. Doogie White handles the vocals and does a fine job in his role. For long time serious hard rock fans like myself, this is a very familiar sounding CD, for example; the riff on "Wild Woman" sounds like a variation of Rainbow's "Long Live Rock N Roll" riff, the acoustic guitar line in "Guardian Of Your Heart" closely resembles the one in Great White's "Save Your Love", the verse riff in "Get Out Of My Way" closely recalls the verse riff in Thin Lizzy's "Dedication", the opening riff in "Transition" sounds alot like Sabbath's "Time Machine", and the song "Exodus" brings to mind Dio's "Egypt (The Chains Are On)". That being said, most of the tracks are very good, mostly uptempo, but with nothing that hits Thrash speed, nor plods along slowly, with only the final track, a ballad, being an obvious weak link to my ears. In the end, I can confidently recommend this CD for any and all fans of late 70's - early 80's era power rock

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HARD ROCK 'N' ROLL FROM 3 VETERANS! May 23, 2014
By Brian
I have been a fan of Doogie's from way back! My favorite work he has done was on the last few Tank releases which I really enjoy, followed by his work with Empire (Chasing Shadows). His voice sounds so much like Biff Byford from Saxon that I find that it takes me a bit to tell them apart! This CD is great from start to finish! My only question is why did they recruit this young lad from Anti Tank Nun to do guitars? (UPDATE: my question was answered below!) Yes, he is okay, but I am not sure he was the best choice for this line-up! At first I thought maybe he was one of their kids or something!? I am just baffled!? Either way, the CD is money well spent! I enjoy it equally as much as the new Moonking's (Adrian Vandenberg) CD. If you like the 30 second samples, you will probably enjoy the whole darn thing!

Amazing album. Remeniscent of Rainbow and Deep Purple. Doogie White sounds better than ever, and Iggy is a guitar virtuoso at 16 years old. If you like seventies and eighties hard rock and metal, you will love WAMI! I was a little apprehensive about buying this without hearing anything in advance, but I'm glad I did. Can't wait to see this band in concert.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hired Guns project that is actually enjoyable July 23, 2014

You know this is a pretty solid release. I am a fan of Doogie White. His stuff (studio and live) with Rainbow and MSG are in my music collection. Vinnie Appice needs no introduction, and Marco Mendoza should not be confused with the bassist from Twisted Sister. And then their is this Polish kid, Iggy on guitar. And WAMI is born. A rock solid collection of songs, but it should be said none of which were written by Doogie, Vinnie or Marco, yet it still works really well. The production, mix, performances, are all top notch, and the album works better when listened to in it's entirety and does not drag on or sound generic in the least bit. I would be really surprised if there is another album, because again, this is not a collaborative effort, it appears to be a hired guns project. If there is a 2nd album, I would gladly welcome another WAMI in my music collection
