Terrific Page Turner - Get comfortable when you start reading,
By
This review is from: Kill The Story (Kindle Edition)
This is a fast paced thriller that takes the time to give an insider's view on the competitive world of journalism on a daily newspaper. This books hooks the reader from the outset and never lets up. I read it in two sittings.I especially liked the way each character is developed. Besides the twisting plot that echos today's headlines and Pennsylvania politics, the dialogue is the book's strength. Each character talks like a real person. Egos, past problems, and professional pressures shape everyone's response to an escalating serial killer. Highly recommended. While you read this book I bet you will be thinking what I thought: This would be a great movie!

This is the story of events surrounding one "Telly" Tellis, an aging, alcoholic, divorced with one alienated child and a granddaughter he has never seen political reporter for The Harrisburg Herald whose mother lives with him. Telly is pretty much a mess of a person when he attends a political rally and a fellow reporter is shot. The original theory is that the shooter was attempting to assassinate the Jr. Senator from Pennsylvania. This turns out to be a false assumption and Telly is smack dab in the middle of an investigation of a serial killer and is forced to look into his past of which he is not very proud. Add a possible love interest in Cassie Jordan who worked with Telly but now is the national reporter for the New York Times and John Luciew begins to weave a very good story. There were times when I could have sworn I had read this book before, but couldn't find that it had been printed in a real book form. If I haven't read it before, there are parts that are most similar to another book(s) I've read. This is a book which holds your interest and keeps you turning the pages. Putting it down is possible, but not for long. The characters are believable and likable but not necessarily would you want them to be your best friends. All in all, it is a good read. Considering the Kindle price; it is a great read.

I just finished reading this Kindle book; it was a fairly enjoyable read, but the high number of errors in the writing really brought down my opinion of it. Either the author was in too big a hurry to get it out to properly proof it, or his knowledge of language usage is really lacking.Numerous instances of "you're" when it should have been "your", "there" instead of "their", "where" instead of "were", "here" instead of "hear", plus several more. Coming across these klinkers in the story are like skating along and suddenly hitting a rock. Spell check wouldn't have caught any of these things; they were spelled correctly, just used incorrectly. This author has the potential to turn out some good reading, he just needs to use a bit more care or ask help in proofing.

Good read with a big 'but',
This review is from: Kill The Story (Kindle Edition)
I had to reload this book on my Kindle after reading 2 of the Lenny Holcomb books just for a sanity check. All the stories were interesting and moved at a good pace (here comes the but...), but why in the world are Telly and Lenny the same character? Both have:seen better days, drink too much, have the condo in Fla for the mother/wife, have estranged daughters named Jessi/Jesse, granddaughters they've never met named Lexie, drive old, beat up Ford Fiestas (I mean does anyone actually know anyone that really drove a Fiesta anyway). The worst was the proverbial last straw with their daughters. The scene could have been cut & pasted from book to book. That was both disappointing and disconcerting. I'll still read the other book I've purchased. Different setting and (hopefully) different characters. His pace and the stories themselves are interesting, I just think there needs to be more character development.

I really enjoyed this story. I didn't think I would like a protagonist who drank too much but I did indeed like this main character. This wasn't a long book but still very worth the reasonable price. Very good book!

What the ...?????,
This review is from: Kill The Story (Kindle Edition)
I am so confused. I just finished reading 2 of John Luciew's books with the main character Lenny Holcomb. Now I am reading Kill the Story and the main character, Frank Tellis, works at the same paper as Lenny, does obituaries just like Lenny, and also has an estranged daughter named Jessie and a grandaughter named Lexie that he just found out about, just like Lenny. Telly's mom's name is Maggie and Lenny's wife name is Maggie. This is so stupid and confusing because I keep thinking I am reading the other 2 books!Could he not think of another story line???

I couldn't put this book down. I love murder mysteries, and this was a good one. Every time I had time to read, I was thinking "Oh, good, I get to read some more of this book!" I'll be reading more books by John Luciew. One thing I do need to mention is that this book needed some more editing. Some of the paragraphs were indented and some weren't, and there were several typos. But there wasn't enough of a problem to pull me out of the story. The book was just too good to let the errors bother me.

I originally ordered this book because it was set in Harrisburg, PA and the plot sounded pretty good. As I started reading, I just couldn't put the book down. "Kill The Story" is well-written with twists, turns and non-stop action with the turn of each page. I highly recommend "Kill The Story"...especially if you are from central Pennsylvania like I am; you won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to my next John Luciew digital download.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The story is very original and develops fast. I, too, read it in two sittings. Although by no means a comedy, it definitely has sections that make you stop reading to laugh. There were a couple (as in 2 in the entire work) of homophones which did not distract me or detract from a most entertaining read. Worth well more than the $2 I spent. Would read other novels from this author for sure.
