Awesome EP,

This review is from: The Kill You EP (Audio CD)
I own this one and their earlier release Bathwater Flowers. I found this one to be a much better album. I like the direction their music is going. Some of their earlier work revealed a hint of their eclectic tastes, but this album really sees them come on strong with a variety of sounds. A couple of songs on the album really reminded me of Dead Can Dance, another of my favoritesBy the way, the 2 of 5 below wasn't very fair - the track list doesn't say the Angel theme is going to be on this album, so it's not very fair to downgrade them when it isn't...

This cd is exciting and fresh. Tracks such as "I Want to Kill You" give you the chills beacuse they are so haunting. Other Tracks like "Spoiled and Rotten" as well as "Cocoon" are so amazing that you can't forget them! The Lead singers voice is so unique, and the bands music is a cross between alternative with a mix of arabian. All the songs here are really great, and this cd is worth every penny.

i first heard 'i want to kill you' on a soundtrack from Vampire: The Redemption that i got for free. i'm very glad i listened to it. as soon as i heard that song i new i liked it, so i got the EP.Darling Violetta has a rich, dark, eclectic sound that i really enjoy. the best song on the album would have to be Coccoon. it has some great middle eastern influences. i think this album would be great for those who like a kind of goth/alternative sound with a femal vocal.

The Kill You EP is an earlier Darling Violetta CD that is very different to their later work. Apart from the song Awesome which is a great pop-anthem the rest is more raw and alternative sounding (which may or not be your choice). Personally i think this CD is really only for DV fans, others should get Parlour as its a much more consistent and satisfying offering.
I'd give it 3.5 stars if i could.

This EP is pretty amazing. 'I want to kill you' is really haunting, and 'Awesome'is really uplifting. I love this, and dont't worry if you have to wait a while, it's worth it! Other CDs to check out are 'Bath water flowers' also by Darling Violetta, and 'I Bificus' by Bif Naked, who is also really inspirational.

Pop Music's Best-Kept Secret,
This review is from: The Kill You EP (Audio CD)
Don't let the "EP" fool you...if you're a newcomer to DV, this album explores more moods & atmospheres than most full-length CDs. Or, if like me, you've followed the band off-and-on for a while, this EP shows whole new sides of DV. "Cocoon" is definitely my favorite track. It shows some sophisticated exoticism without the Eastern scales being too overbearing. "I Want to Kill You" has a film-noir feel to it, and eventually grows to show the singer expanding her voice to places I never thought it could go. Every track shows the mid-point (so far) of DVs maturing sense of instrumentation and songcrafting. An altogether amazing pop band.

I absolutely loved this cd and can't wait for DArling Violetta to produce a full length cd. The mixture of the strings and well as the more standard instruments made a haunting contrast on many tracks, and the lead singer has a wonderful voice both soft and hard.

WOW! I just listened to Cocoon (track #3)and couldn't believe how good it was...I'm a big fan of Middle Eastern textures and the singer's voice is absolutely gorgeous...reminds me of Lisa Gerrard. The last song has a dark trip hop element to it. I want to hear more...I hope they come out with a new CD soon.

This a great collection of songs from a band that, as far as I know, is not well known in the US. The album grows on you the more you listen to it.

A fusion of familar artists,
By
This review is from: The Kill You EP (Audio CD)
This bands sometimes reminds me of the Cranberries, sometimes Frente, sometimes Pizzicato Five, and sometimes the Corrs; or like Irish/Australian/Japan-Pop mixed together. That is not to say there aren't original, just imagine mixing those artists together, somehow. An all-around good CD, too bad it doesn't it isn't loaded with tracks. It is good enough to own, and best of all it is not copy-protected!
