3.0 out of 5 stars decent zomedy. August 29, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
This is a zomedy movie. Not a zombie movie. Although it does of course feature zombies. In this case green moss takes people over and they become zombies.
This is a campy movie and has scenes which are pure camp with over the top things like ' banners that appear and say 'barachi brothers attack". etc. And of course our heroes , two arab dutch guys , and two black dutch guys and blonde hot dutch woman battle the zombies and get lots of green slime on them and don't change into zombies. Unless they are bitten. So on that level , logic is thrown out the window. But this is not a serious movie. It's got lots of zombies that get blown away though and decent special effects , especially the cgi space station that crashes into Holland. But serious zombie fans are going to be not too happy with this is they want a non comedy zombie flick. It's in dutch with English subtitles and if you can't enjoy a movie that's not in English , well that's sorta sad , just because you have to read subs?. This film is often silly and meant to be. The gore and such are just part of the whole backdrop. ANd the ending is well really dumb. But it's a comedy so they just threw that in. In hd this looks good but the film it was shot on , was rather dark?. I don't know. But in this case the hd wasn't stand out as I would have hoped. But it's better the standard version.

Here’s the thing about comedy: if you beg, borrow, or steal it, it usually isn’t as funny the second time around. No matter how hard you try. No matter how everyone involved tries. It just won’t work the same way. Ever have to explain a joke? Ever notice how – in the process – everything remotely humorous about it gets sucked away with each passing word? Same thing. When you pilfer from the best, you’re at least playing solid odds that whatever audience shows up will give you only gracious laughs but not necessarily ones all that legitimately earned.

Humor works best when it comes from an original inspiration. When all you do is take bits and pieces from what others have done before you (especially when it comes to comedy), then you should be fully prepared to be called a ‘hack.’ You deserve it, after all, and so does everyone who shows up to help you out.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and/or characters. If you’re the type of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I’d encourage you to skip down to the last three paragraphs for my final assessment. If, however, you’re accepting of a few modest hints at ‘things to come,’ then read on …)

Fun Dutch import on the zombie movie.
.
I enjoyed it, it's not George Romero quality,
.
but's it fun to watch our antagonists fight there way through the throngs of flesh eaters.
.
Worth a watch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick zombie-comedy with plenty of laughs June 5, 2014
Format:Blu-ray
I can honestly say I never expected to review a zombie movie that came from the Netherlands, especially a zombie-comedy. This is not a knock against the Dutch…it’s just that zombies and certain countries aren’t thought about together. But regardless of what I think about its origins, KILL ZOMBIE! is a hilarious horror-comedy that fans of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL will love.

If this movie is any indication of what the Dutch can do in terms of horror and/or comedy, then sign me up. I laughed so hard at parts of this film that I had to pause it so I could catch my breath. But it’s chocked full of gore, too, which is cause for a definite thumbs-up here.

KILL ZOMBIE! is an all around joy. The production value looks high, the acting is top notch, and the special effects are well done. Not to mention the laughs; there’s plenty of them to go around, and they can be found in the unlikeliest of places.

I like the entire cast of this film, and the best part is that there are several ‘main’ characters in it. As a result, there’s not a single person trying to dole out all of the funny; this makes the comedy more effective, as it gives several venues for laughs.

The special effects in KILL ZOMBIE! are really good as well. Many of the splatter-shots and zombie kills are CG, but the graphics look great and do not appear cheap. Likewise, there’s plenty of actual gore to go around as well.

KILL ZOMBIE! is a heck of a film, and I suggest you give it a look. Be warned, however: there is not an English dub-over, so you will have to read the subtitles. But I didn’t have a problem at all with doing so, and I enjoyed every bit of the movie. Check it out for sure when it hits store shelves next week.
