Great for MUSIC TEACHERS!, November 7, 2011
This review is from: Who Killed Cock Robin? (Hardcover)
All elementary music teachers must own this book!!! Great to use with the folk song with the same title. Useful to teach the element low la, as the repeated pattern "It was I, oh it was I" is sung on la, la, do re mi re do la,
My third graders die to sing this book and search for all the hidden clues, and I am happy to let them do so because they get so grounded in la pentatonic.

Wow!, October 22, 2010
This review is from: Who Killed Cock Robin? (Hardcover)
The nursery rhyme "Who killed Cock Robin" has an unusual structure, with interior rhyming and repetition, that makes it interesting to listen to.
There is a lot going on in this book.
Kevin O'Malley has taken the nursery rhyme and turned it into a mystery -- a cover up. Because Cock Robin isn't dead at all. All the birds say their nursery rhyme lines, but the owl spots clues that lead him to believe that something else is happening. The illustrations give you clues. The newspaper article at the end sums it all up.
This is a great book for more perceptive kids, or older kids studying poetry. The illustrations are so different from the usual thing from Kevin O'Malley.
Very well-done book.
