This book is on many peoples must read list for books about Africa. This is the real africa. I have spent 99% of my time in Africa in non-tourist areas, with the people of africa, either for fun or research. (If you want to see the real africa, go to areas not in the lonely planet).

This books give the perspective of life in a troubled area from the perspective of an african. Well written. Bittersweet. Quick read.

We Killed Mangy Dog will haunt your soul. This is one of the best books of short stories I've read. Each story creates vivid images and characters. You will become part of each story, walk the same streets, talk with the same people, and feel the same fears, anger, and confusion as those in the book. Read this book and you will weep. Read this book and you will carry each word in your memory and heart for as long as you live.
