Excellent eclectic collection of Jazz artists freewheeling a superb album. This is a real sleeper I discovered by accident listening to samples at Tower Records. No one will regret owning this.

This is a very oustanding record from my point of view, nor only for the amazing piano solos but for the interesting way of combination of so many talents in a whole issue....near to clasic and beyond because of the magnificent of the performances of the soloists...an essencial companion for jazz lovers.

Airto Moreira and the Gods of Jazz (nice modest name for a group, eh?) is an album of jamming in which Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Mark Egan, Gary Meek, and Hiram Bullock join forces with Airto in various combinations to produce a CD that is a joy to hear. Hancock and Corea really seem to be enjoying themselves, Stanley Clarke contributes some lovely acoustic bass playing on a couple of the cuts, and even the lesser divinities produce some solid contributions. A loose, fun CD with plenty of energy.

4.0 out of 5 stars WAY BACK WHEN, November 11, 2006

IN THE 1970'S, THESE MUSICIANS HELPED TO DEFINE WHAT WE USED TO CALL FUSION MUSIC. AND THE ARTISTS ON THIS CD WERE SOME ITS' BIGGEST PROPONENTS. HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH A CD THAT HAS CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS LIKE AIRTO MOREIRA (A FOUNDING MEMBER OF WEATHER REPORT), CHICK COREA, STANLEY CLARKE (HALF OF THE GROUP RETURN TO FOREVER), HERBIE HANCOCK, FLORA PURIM (AIRTO'S WIFE, A VOCALIST WITH A FOUR OCTAVE RANGE), HIRAM BULLOCK (A STUDIO MAINSTAY FOR WELL OVER TWENTY YEARS), AND OTHERS. THESE ARTISTS WERE INTERESTED IN STRETCHING THE BOUNDARIES OF JAZZ WITH ELECTRONIC SOUNDS, DIFFERENT TIME CHANGES, AND LOTS OF DIFFERENT SOUNDING PERCUSSION. THIS IS WHAT COULD BE CALLED AVANTE GARDE, SORT OF FREEFORM JAZZ. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A JAZZ CD BASED ON EIGHT BAR BLUES, THIS IS NOT IT. THIS IS MORE "MOOD MUSIC". THIS CD IS REMNISCENT OF EARLY WEATHER REPORT RECORDINGS.

HOLY COW MAN!
i was at the mall and my boy john starts looking through the used cds...not the band...we'll say PreOwned so you all dont get confused...and he pulls out a few...and says "you can really find some good deals here..." I then think...well no one liked them enough to be in the regular racks...but anyways...i continue to look and then i stumble across this...Airto Moreira? what the heck? Killer Bee?....the only name i recognized was Herbie Handcock and that was from playing Amplitude on PS2..so i thought well...its only 3.28...so i bought it...i must say....this is a great album...very nice to fall asleep to...(in a good way) i dont believe this was only 3.28 cents...cheapest cd ive ever bought!
a 5 of 5! GO AIRTO AND THE GODS OF JAZZ!
