4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fighting Game for Game Boy, March 5, 2001
By
This review is from: Killer Instinct (Game Cartridge)
The conversion from the Nintendo 64 to the Game Boy was very well done. The graphics can be a bit hard to make out at times, but after a while, everything becomes clear. (Meaning: Your eyes get used to the small screen size). The music is an above average for Game Boy and captures all the music quite well. The most dissapointing thing about the transfer, was leaving Riptor and Cinder out of the game. Perhaps because they were not in the sequel or just to make room for all the memory. Anyway, fun game to play, I personally think it's the best in the "Street Fighting" style games, mixing great graphics, combos, which until this game were virtually non-existant and great music as well. (This refers to the Arcade/N64/Game Boy version of the game). Since it's not available anymore, if you can find it for a good price, it's a fun game to pick up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half decent old GameBoy fighter, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Killer Instinct (Game Cartridge)
When Killer Instinct became a smash hit on the Super NES, it seemed inevitable that a stripped down conversion would come to the GameBoy. This portable version of Killer Instinct is missing a fighter or two, but the graphics and overall gameplay remain remarkably faithful to it's arcade and 16-bit counterpart. The two button control scheme makes the crazy multi-hit combos easier than ever before to pull off, but special moves themselves can be a pain to do. Not to mention due to the fact this is a game for the original black and white GameBoy the graphics are very hard to see, especially if the background arena is dark. Some of this can be corrected thanks to a lighting option offered in the game's option screen, but problems still persist. All in all, Killer Instinct may not be the same great fighter it was in the arcades and on home systems, but it is one of the better original GameBoy fighters available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great version., April 13, 2011

This is a real decent version of Killer Instinct ported (from the snes version) to the gameboy. The differences are the sound, and graphics. The moves are still there, but some look like they are used differently. The combos are easier and fun on the gb version. I didn't really see blood in this one. Two characters (Riptor and Cinder) were not there. I have no idea why. Anyway if this is played on the gameboy it was made for, then you can turn up and down the brightness, but this version has the smallest resolution. If you play it on the gba, you will see extra color was added and you can now change the resolution with L to high, and R to low. Then if it is played on gba sp, or ds lite you will get better lighting of the screen obviously. This game is missing two characters and has few differences, but its worth to get it. Especially if you want it for your Rare/Rareware collection. Many themes were also recongnize in this game. It feels like playing an original nes game on a gameboy.
