Book Description

Molly Forrester Mysteries July 29, 2008
Advice columnist Molly Forrester has been working her heels to the ground trying to get recognized as an investigative journalist...and has even solved a few murders along the way. Thankfully, her publisher finally has taken notice. Her make-or-break assignment: A profile of Russell Elliott, the legendary rock producer who recently died of an accidental overdose. All Molly has to do to keep her job--and maybe even win back the heart of handsome NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards--is give Elliot's platinum albums a shine without flipping them over to see what they're hiding...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Glamorous to outsiders, the high-powered music business can exact a fatally high price for fame, as Molly Forrester discovers when she turns investigative reporter in Anderson's entertaining fourth mystery (after 2006's Killer Deal) to feature the popular advice columnist for Zeitgeist, a fashionable Manhattan magazine. Molly seizes the chance to profile music industry giant Russell Elliott, who's recently died of what's been ruled an accidental drug overdose. As Molly begins to interview Elliott's complex family, which includes an assortment of ex-wives, and learns of the legal and personal tangles of the tortured genius, she suspects his demise was no accident. Meanwhile, she struggles to keep her job and to rekindle her romance with handsome NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards. Anderson's breezy style—a mix of wit and trendy references—at times borders on the silly, but chick lit fans, not to mention Sex in the City buffs, will find much to like.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable lighthearted romp, November 29, 2007
Molly Forrester writes a highly regarded stylish advice column for chic Manhattan based Zeitgeist magazine, but wants to become an investigative journalist. She is euphoric with her latest assignment; a Features' article on recently deceased Rock and Roll giant producer Russell Elliott, whose death was officially due to an accidental overdose.

Molly interviews Elliott's surviving extended family members as Elliot had several wives, which has left his will tied up in probate wars. As she digs deeper, Molly begins to believe that Elliot was a murder victim, but anyone cut out of his latest will apparently have an avaricious motive. This means most likely one of the ex's or part of their retinue rejected Elliot's final riff.

KILLER RIFF is an enjoyable lighthearted romp starring a likable heroine whose sidebars are sub-genre requirements expected of a chic lit heroine starring in an amateur sleuth whodunit. The story line is fast-paced and somewhat inane both due to the antics and barbs of the unsinkable Molly. Her struggles to complete her article and deal with her relationship with NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards is fun to follow. Fans who enjoy a funny but frivolous frolic will appreciate the Killer Molly series (see KILLER DEAL, KILLER HEELS, and KILLER COCKTAIL).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun to Read, December 16, 2008
By
I had a lot of fun reading killer Riff by Sheryl Anderson. She is an entertaining author. I have read all the Molly Forrester novels and I can't wait for the next one to come out. One thing that I find particularly enjoyable is the friendship between Molly and her two best friends. It is a delight to see women cast in a role where they are empowering each other rather than competing.
