Editorial Reviews

2011 release, the third album from the British Indie/Guitar outfit. The album (partly recorded in Los Angeles and in Cherry Lips studios) has been co-produced by frontman, Richard Archer, with the help of some highly-praised names: Stuart Price (Killers, Madonna), Grey Kurstin (Lily Allen) and Alan Moulder (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Killers). The first single from the four piece, 'Good For Nothing' is a true statement of intent; an anthemic rebel-rousing call to arms that signals the start of a new phase for the band. Produced by frontman Richard Archer, the single has already received a mass of support from radio with Zane Lowe naming it his Hottest Record In The World Right Now and also playing it during his stint covering for Chris Moyles. More Radio 1 support has come from Fearne Cotton and XFM have also added to their daytime playlist with DJ Steve Harris naming it his Single of the Week.

.....are you kidding me?....people People, get on board, this band is on fire!.... great songwriting, lyrics that make you think, just an all-around killer sound (hey wait a minute).....go and YouTube "Good For Nothing" and i'll shut up, you'll be nailed, discussion over.....i have to admit we don't know sh~t here in the States sometimes about the glorious UK music scene, so Hard-Fi only crossed my radar with this new release, their third since 2006......good stuff, own it all now, am really liking how these guys started out SOLID and have just kept pushing the music to new levels.......won't bother comparing to other bands (fool's game) they are who they are..... Listen up and be ready to get hooked like i did.....YEAH!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviewers - it's a crime that Hard-Fi has been overlooked here. Their first two singles (Cash Machine and Hard to Beat) from their first album (Stars of CCTV) did get decent airplay here, but since then, pretty much nada. I don't understand it at all - their songs are really strong, catchy, and fun to sing along with.

I will say that I think Killer Sounds is stronger than their second (Once Upon a Time in the West), but that album had some real standout tracks, so I don't want people to avoid that album, either. It's also more mature than their first album. But . . . this seems to be Rich's "sex" album, in my opinion. The first two albums had more politics on them - especially the first album - but most of the songs on Killer Sounds are more personal. That's fine with me, but I do miss the punk rock politics (the song "Killer Sounds" aside).

You clearly hear the Clash here on at least two songs, but as another reviewer said, they are their own band, meshing punk with world music with aggro-pop and even some dance music ("Love Song" starts off like a club mix). The songs grow on you over time - at first blush, I liked "Fire in the House" and a couple of others the best, but now I have to say many of the songs have gotten stuck in my head at one point or another - the sign of great pop.

I only hope they'll come tour the U.S. again sometime soon, so that people can see how great they are!

I was shocked seeing only one review here. This has been on my top play list for months now. There is an iTunes Festival London 2011 EP wich contains live versions of some of the best songs which I like more than than the album versions, and the Glastonbury 2011 festival DVD has some live songs as well as an acoustic set, not to be missed! Please play in Florida soon!
