Editorial Reviews

Killer Whales is the first commercial release by guitarist Jon Bare and his band, the Killer Whales. It was recorded virtually live in the studio, combining the raw experimental spirit of the 60’s with a 90’s state-of-the-art cutting edge. Killer Whales features the awesome bass playing of Tim Bogert (Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge) and the impressive drumming of Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers). This album captures all of the spontaneity and excitement of the power-trio's live performance. Jon Bare, one of the hottest new guitarists on the L.A. music scene, is the producer and central creative force behind the album.

This review is from: Killer Whales (Audio CD)
You're probably familiar with Tim Bogert (Jeff Beck & Vanilla Fudge) and Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers) but Jon Bare is the driving force behind this "Killer" CD. He's an excellent guitarist (on par with anyone you can think of) and the songwriting is terrific... We've all heard uninteresting songs written by great guitar players - but you won't find that on this CD. The songs showcase the virtuosity of each player without being indulgent. Besides Bare and Bogert, McCracken really impresses - you didn't hear a hint of this playing in his Doobie Brothers days. But don't take my word for it, listen to "Be Young," "I Got The Blues," and "Spacey" and you'll be blown away.
