KILLERS IS AN ORIGINAL METAL MASTERPIECE,
By BIG J. JOCKO (Bazookaville, Oh) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
Where do I begin. Well let's just first say that this album has a high level of aggression, along with "killer" melody and hooks. It also contains my favorite rhythm section of all time, "Steamin'" Steve Harris and "Clever" Clive Burr(Among the most underated drummers of all time). Furthermore, this was the first Maiden album to feature guitarist Adrian Smith, a master shredder and essential Maiden member . And Dave Murray ain't no slouch on this one either! "Killers" is the first Maiden record to display the dynamic twin guitar attack of Murray and Smith. Also, the last album to feature Paul Di'anno, a very powerful and unique vocalist, who had a lot to do with maidens early success. Some of the best cuts on the record are the very fast for their day "Purgatory" and "Murders in the Rue Morgue", the broodingly heavy "Wrathchild"and a couple nice surprises- the thoughtful mellow rocker "Prodigal Son" to the very catchy yet heavy "Twilight Zone" and "Drifter". And don't forget the "killer" title track! Another tidbit-"Killers" was the album that Bruce Dickinson had to learn when Paul Di'anno quit or was ousted(or whatever Steve Harris says happened to him). "Killers" contains elements of metal/jazz/thrash/hardcore/punk/pop and is a must have for anyone interested in discovering Iron Maiden, if they haven't done that yet. It was a very influential album to later metal and thrash artists(right, Lars?). Last but not least, produced by Martin Birch of "Deep Purple" fame.

TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
Killers is now my favorite Maiden album. Before I purchased it, I just bought Bruce on vocals. I was skeptical, because alot of Maiden fans don't like Paul Di'anno. I bought it anyway, just to see what he sounded like. And I have to say he has one the greatest heavy metal voices of all time. This album also introduces Adrian Smith on guitar after Dennis Stratton left. There is absolutely no filler I loved every song. If you are a fan of Iron Maiden or just like good old 80's Heavy Metal than this should be an immediate purchase. If your new to Maiden you may want to listen Bruce Dickinson first, to get used to thier sound. Then get this killer album.

stuck in Purgatory, can't escape,
By Zorin (La Plata, Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
Best Iron Mdiden CD ever made. Purgatory is my favorite track, and the CD flows together nicely. If you like metal, this is one of the necessary CD's to own- it's a classic, pure and simple. Iron Maiden was so great it spawned copycats like Queensryche and Mercyful Fate. All good bands, but Maiden was started in 1976!

Hatred that burns IN THE NIGHT!,
By "knight_of_night" (Trogdor) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
This has the best line of metal ever. The song Killers, has that wonderful "night" line, so it's my favorite song now. Not only does it have night, but it has hatred. What more could you want? Ides of March, even though it's an instrumental, has that night feel. NIGHT! There are 3, not one, not two, but 3 songs with night. Murders In The Rue Morgue, Killers, AND Twilight Zone. Such a great album. Give me night over day any night. NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHT!

Timeless Maiden,
By Masked Jackal (Ft. Lauderdale, FL United States) - See all my reviews

I don't listen to most Maiden fans when it comes to rating this album.....I think it's awesome!!!Here is a true story......I bought this album for the cover artwork, I think D. Riggs is the best album cover artist in the world.....But back to the story. Before I purchaced "Killers", I had already bought "Number Of The Beast".....everybody had it, so I had to have it. I never knew that Iron Maiden ever had another singer before Bruce Dickinson until I saw "Killers". After seeing the cover, I had to have it. I didn't care what it sounded like, I just loved the cover. After hearing this, the cover was no longer my reason for purchacing "Killers".....The music was. I think "Killers" has one of the coolest sounds Maiden has ever put on vinyl. It is truely unique, and Maiden has never in my opinion, ever been able to reproduce that sound...... "Killers" is not just songs, it's like a ride. It takes you in all different directions. This album has more emotion than any other Maiden album I've ever heard. They put together some of the most beautiful songs on this album in my opinion. The slow songs on here put me on the verge of tears at times.....and that's not something music does to me very often. Don't let that fool you however, "Killers" is packed with power as well. There isn't one song that I don't like, and I've been a B. Dickinson backer since "Number..." If B. Dickinson was with Maiden during this period, "Killers" would have sounded completely different.....And honestly, Paul makes "Killers" what it is. It's an Iron Maiden "Timeless Classic"!! It may be hard to stomach for someone who has never heard Maiden without Bruce, but for me, there was nobody like Paul. If I had never bought this album, I might not be the Maiden fan that I am today.....I'm an Iron Maiden collector. To me, "Killers" stands all by itself. Nothing Maiden did after this was as inspiring in my opinion. UP THE IRONS!!!

Get this one!,
By Alex Teich (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews

Hey folks, I've got every Maiden album, and this is definitely the best (and that's saying a lot). As a matter of fact, this is really one of the best rock albums ever made- you just never get tired of it. It's got a different sound from the other Maiden albums, I must warn you. But give it a couple of listens and you'll be hooked in no time. I also like the fact that nearly the entire album is written by Steve Harris. If Harris was Picasso, Killers would be "Guernica"!

Good clean fun.,
By Addebass (Oslo) - See all my reviews

"Killers" is the only album that has Iron Maiden panting out the much spoken of mixture of punk's energy and the skillfulness of hard-rock musicians - by many refered to as the main bricks in the The New Wave of British Heavy Metal-theorem. Some people consider this album to have been recorded in haste, thus leaving the audience with 10 sketches of unfulfilled Maiden classics. To me the spontaneity of "Killers" is a refreshing oasis amidst the powerful, but oh-so thoroughly arranged and at times pompeous line of recordings made by the band between 1980 and -84. No songs over 7 minutes - actually some are under three. It is the document that shows guitar-duo Smith and Murray finally joining forces in the right band, introducing the most ingenious lineup of guitarists in music history. The album also introduces producer Martin Birch who fully enabled Maiden to prove their strenght in studio-recordings as well as their force as a live-band. Much has already been said about the strong songs on this album, but I'll just have to mention that this is the only Maiden album I still listen to reguraerly, and when I do it usually spins right through the tracklist from start to finish, the howling of Di'Anno on "Drifter" leaving me off laughing in pure good clean fun-extacy.

Iron Maiden's best album,
By Robert Stotzky (Gothenburg, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
I know I'm gonna get killed for this, but Bruce Dickinson was never my favorite Maiden vocalist. I liked Blaze Bayley better, but my favorite is and was Paul Dianno. His voice has that raw edge that fits perfectly with Maiden's first albums, where the music had a raw, almost punk-like edge to it.

AMAZING IMPROVMENT IN PRODUCTION ...,
By
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
Dear Mr. Arsh Karma (the reviewer below). Thanks God you chose to buy "KILLERS" instead of "NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING" ...The latter one is a shame, while KILLERS is a masterpiece, the second album from Maiden, the first featuring ace producer Martin Birch and the first featuring ace guitarrist Adrian Smith. In this one, Maiden worked on songs that were already tried and proved for years playing live in the British pub scene. So they just refined it a little and went into the studios. The result was a tour-de-force of great metal music, great solos, Clive Burr's amazing drumming and Paul Di'anno's unique voice giving it all he could (I'm sorry, Bruce Dickinson, your voice is wonderful, but for sheer rock'n roll voice Di'anno was the one ). Steve Harris wrote all the songs for this album, with the exception of the title track, co-written with Di'anno.

A Killer!,
This review is from: Killers (Audio CD)
This album is great, the only bad thing is that Paul DiAnno sings way to fast on some songs, you can hardly hear what he is singing on the verses on "Murders in the Rue Morgue", but he sings much better on "Killers" and "Purgatory". Killers include two instrumental songs and both are great. The songs on Killers are: 1.The ides of march: A catchy but short instrumental track. It is a great song, but it isn't as good as "Genghis Khan". 2.Wrathchild:One of the best songs of the album. 3.Murders in the Rue Morgue:Starts slowly but breaks into a very fast guitar riff and a great chorus. My only complaint is that DiAnno sings way to fast in the verses. Not as great as the title track but almost. 4.Another Life:Musically it is great but the lyrics is too repetive. 5.Genghis Khan:A longer and a more complex version of "The ides of march". 6.Innocent Excile:A song about a innocent man that has been accused for killing a woman. It isn't one of the best songs but it is good. 7.Killers:One of Maidens greatest song ever. 8.Prodigal son: The slowest and longest song of the album. DiAnno sounds great on this song. The third best song of the album. 9.Purgatory: It is the fastest song of the album. 10.Twilight zone:It is about a dead man that is captured in the Twilight Zone and is tempted to bring his wife over to him. It has a sad feeling. 11.Drifter:Compared to the other songs of the album this has a very happy mood. The slow part of the song is great.Well if you like Iron Maiden this is a must have. |
