Book Description

The Last Killiney, the first book in The Ravenna Evans Series.

On holiday in England, Ravenna Evans begins to recall her past life as an eighteenth-century Irish viscount's lover. When she is swept back in time to relive this affair (along with Lord Killiney's very unwilling modern counterpart), she learns that living in the past isn't all fun and games, and that history can't always be changed to one's liking.

This is a full-length novel (well over 400 pages), and although it's the first in a series, The Last Killiney can be read as a stand-alone book.

Other books in this series include The Wager and The Bayman's Bride.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!!! December 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
What an amazing story. The more I got into the story, the more I loved it. At times I felt that Ravenna was a little naive for a 27 year old woman from the 21st century and Paul was too tortured for his own good, but it made for a wonderful build-up. Wow, that man sure had self control. The main characters came to life; I wanted to be cuddled by Paul, I wanted to strangle Christian and Vancouver, and for a while I wanted to slap Paul upside his stubborn head. I felt Ravenna's frustration, and later on I shed a few tears for her grief. Every time the story progressed and I was left with questions, the answers were given later on.

This is like no romance I've read before. I loved it and am going to be buying the next in the series because even though the story ended, I was left with wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! December 15, 2011
By Tina
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book is amazing, I am totally hooked with the story & characters, I rarely write reviews, but I really want to recommend people to read this book, you will be hooked too! I was looking for a new author for my Kindle when it was listed as one of the books suggested to me based on other books I read. I thought, "why not?" I'm so glad I did. I found myself thinking about the characters while trying to fall asleep or at other times when I wasn't reading. I bought the other two books and I can't wait to start reading them. J. Jay Kamp, you are a truly gifted writer! It will be a sin if you stop writing!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing January 11, 2012
By Kath235
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am giving this book only an okay rating. I did finish the book, although I was not too sure why. I agree with another reviewer who found that Ravenna's total inexperience was unbelievable. No woman today could be that naive unless she never went to movies, watched TV or read anything. I could buy that she hadn't dated since high school and thus might not have any physical experience, but she certainly should have had more of a knowledge base.
I also found that I didn't like any of the characters. Elizabeth and Killiney were thankfully only briefly active characters, but Christian and Paul were both extremely troubled. I could not see what Ravenna would see in either one. Paul was more to be pitied then loved.
I am overall quite disappointed that I spent the time reading this one. My only consolation is that it was free and at least my wallet is not unhappy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't understand all the 5-star reviews January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't really understand all the 5-star reviews. I found Ravenna completely unbelievable as a character. 27-year-old female from the 21st century acting like an 12-year-old virgin? Not realistic. Also typing or spelling errors were bothersome - saloon instead of salon, in instead of inn, and several others. One of the few books I didn't bother to finish.

2.0 out of 5 stars Excrutiating June 14, 2012

This book was a chore to get through. The only reason I finished and didn't give this book one star- the premise was interesting.

I wouldn't recommend this book even though I got it for free.

I was able to get through this book... barely. I kept expecting something to happen... and then it didn't. I was like "finally" when the build-up was over. This could have been a little less dramatic, because the waiting for the book to actually go somewhere was almost unbearable. I skipped chapter 27 entirely knowing that something was going to happen between Christian and the none to willing Ravenna and that somehow it would turn out to be a happy ending.
While the beginning was awesome and the ending a happy one, I felt that the middle devolved a bit and turned into a space filler. Paul could have been a little less melodramatic as well. I would recommend this to anyone who is diehard historical romance- reincarnation buff, but if you're looking for a little more action, a little less stringing along, pass by this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbearable!!!! September 30, 2012
By Megan
Format:Kindle Edition
I started reading this book only because of the Amazon ratings, 4 and a half stars. I couldn't get past the first chapter. I wish I could have given this NO stars. What in the world was this author thinking? I couldn't figure it out! First she's in Disneyland, then she's in court, then she's sitting on a bluff - crying, next talking to cousin on the phone about someone she was visualizing. Enough! She had my head spinning, and not to mention the typos. Anyway, there are too many good books out there to read to waste your time on this one.

The reason for all the mixed reviews is simple. The storyline has to be set up and explained, as with all books. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars The Last Killiney
The book combined time travel, history, and romance, along with a longing for true love. It was a good book, and the ending wasn't what I suspected, but it was still good.

More About the Author

Born to an Anglophile school-district clerk and an asphalt paver who loved to fish, J. Jay Kamp has been writing books about England and the sea since 1991. Her love affair with country houses has compelled her to visit over one hundred historic properties and spend far too much time in the British Library. With Admiral Lord Nelson and George Vancouver as heroes, J. Jay has an unrelenting appetite for maritime history. Touring Victory, Nelson's flagship, was one of the highlights of her many travels, as was visiting the Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala, snorkeling the beautiful barrier reef of Belize, taking in the Georgian architecture of Dublin, Ireland, and walking the windswept landscapes of the West Country in England. Her favorite place in the world, however, remains closed to her: Protection Island in Washington State, where she spent the summers of her youth. It is a National Wildlife Refuge and, as such, off limits to the public.

J. Jay Kamp's work has won two contests sponsored by the Romance Writers of America: The Bayman's Bride took top honors in the 1997 "Emerald City Opener" (historical category), while The Last Killiney (then called 'Til Death Do Us Part) received honorable mention in the paranormal "On the Far Side" contest the same year.

Having been an administrative assistant for most of the last decade, J. Jay is currently a full-time writer and mother of three (cats, that is). She is presently working on a new project, a story about Ravenna Evans and the Irish Rebellion of 1798.
