Editorial Reviews

Killing Absorption is a testament to guttural death metal with blast beats, savage induced guitar riffs and vo-kills so brutal you'd think the beast itself was screaming them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine for what it is August 31, 2007
Format:Audio CD
Sometimes it's clear what type of music an album is just by reading the title. If it's called "Smokin' Herb Wit' My Homies in the Hood," it's probably a rap disc. If an album is titled something like "Little Susie Met Lyle Down by the Well," it is most likely country music. And when an album is called "Killing Absorption" by a band named Fleshgore, you could bet your bottom dollar that you should get ready for straight-up, brutal death metal. Well, that's exactly what Fleshgore provide here.

After the positive acclaim of their sophomore effort, 2006's "May God Strike Me Dead," Fleshgore re-released their debut album, "Killing Absorption," later the same year. It was originally released in 2003, when Fleshgore had a different vocalist. But even with a different vocalist, the Ukranian quartet's sound was pretty much the same then as it is now: a relentless onslaught of raw, blistering guitars, inhuman vocals (cookie monster bellows occasionally accented by black metal-style rasps and shrieks), and constant, furious double bass/blast beat drumming that's so fast it makes jackhammers seem slow. "May God Strike Me Dead" is clearly the superior of the two discs because it has more individually memorable songs, but there are a couple standout tracks here. (See the slow, creepy breakdown in the middle and blazing solo near the end of "Infernal Earth," the fairly long and ripping solo that crops up in "Prepare to Die," and the thunderous rhythm and trippy vocal style of "Plague.") Plus, "MGSMD" may boast a better production, but "Killing Absorption" sounds a lot more primal and abrasive, helping it to evoke classic grindcore bands like Repulsion, Cattle Decapitation, and old-school Carcass.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good grind. January 19, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Crusty, heavy, short, and to the point. Thats how I like my grindcore.
Raw production gives it a little charm.
The front-man could've put a little more effort into his growls, but oh well.
